Planning
What will the weather be like?
September is reliably clear and the driest month in Nantahala. The first gentle frost tends to arrive by late September, triggering the first pops of color. The temperature remains pleasantly warm: highs in the mid-70s, lows in the mid-50s. The lake water is still comfortable enough for swimming!
Will the ceremony, cocktail hour, or reception take place outdoors?
Yes! All wedding day events are scheduled to take place outdoors. Bring sunscreen! In the case of rain, we will have tents for the ceremony. The reception pavilion is covered and rain proof. There's a short, but steep hill on a gravel path to get to the ceremony location, so flats or wedges are recommended. A golf cart will be available for guests who are not able-bodied.
What should I wear? Is there a dress code?
The dress code for our wedding is semi-formal. We kindly ask that our guests dress in shades of green and neutrals (no white!) to our wedding. Green, black, grey, nude, brown, and navy are all great choices! Please avoid wearing white and warm tones (red, orange, yellow, etc.) as these colors are reserved for the wedding party.
Ladies, there is a short but steep hike to the ceremony site. Heels are not recommended! Wedges or block heels may be fine, but you may want to bring an extra pair of flats just in case.
Where and when do I need to RSVP?
Please RSVP by September 3rd. Our RSVP form is online only. Please scan the QR code on your invitation using your phone's camera or visit the RSVP tab on our wedding website.
Are kids welcome?
While we adore your kiddos, only children in the wedding party are invited. We appreciate you making arrangements for your children so you can celebrate with us.
Can I bring a date?
Our wedding is strictly RSVP only. If you have been given a plus one, you should see that reflected in the online RSVP form. We are only able to accommodate those listed in the RSVP.
Travel
How do I get to the venue?
Because the venue is tucked into the mountains, service is VERY unreliable. Please plan ahead! It might be a good idea to go old school and print out directions from MapQuest. . .
Are there hotel room blocks?
Because there are so many beautiful cabins on and around Nantahala Lake, we have not blocked out hotel rooms. Please visit the Travel page on our website for recommendations on lodging. We have compiled a variety of cabin and house rentals from Airbnb and Vrbo. If you want to go rouge and find your own place, look for lodging on Nantahala Lake for a shorter commute. If you still want to stay in a hotel, we recommend the Quality Inn in Andrews, NC as it is only 20 minutes from the venue.
Is parking available at the venue?
Yes. There are only 50 spots next to the venue, so please carpool if possible! Please park perpendicular to Wayah road. DO NOT drive up to the reception pavilion!
When should I arrive?
We recommend that you arrive at least 30 minutes before the ceremony to allow time to park, make the (short) hike up to the ceremony site, and mingle. Plus, it will give you some extra time to soak up the beautiful views! Please note that no one will be admitted into the ceremony after it starts.
Wedding Day Logistics
Is the venue wheelchair accessible?
Yes (kind of)! The venue is mostly gravel, and there is a short but steep hill to get to the ceremony. A golf cart will be available to transport any handicapped guests to and from the ceremony location. The venue has had a handicapped groom before, so it is doable!
What kind of food and drinks will be served?
We will have a mouth watering buffet provided by Chef Karl Johnson. We will serve chicken, steak, and fish. If you have any dietary restrictions, please indicate that on your RSVP, and we will make special arrangements for your meal.
We will have an open bar serving beer, wine, seltzers, specialty cocktails, and soda & water.
I can't attend the wedding in person. Will there be a virtual wedding celebration?
You will be missed! Due to the lack of service at the ceremony site, we are unable to provide a virtual celebration.
What's the best way for me to contact you if I have any additional questions?
You can email us at shysevwed23@gmail.com if you have any additional questions. Please note that due to other responsibilities, if you contact us the week of our wedding, we can't ensure a response.
