Our story began in Omaha, Nebraska in 2018. Cheyenne and Jacob (Jake) both began working in child welfare at Nebraska Families Collaborative/PromiseShip and our supervisors (Jessica and Sarah) shared offices and were close friends. Cheyenne started working for Jessica about 6 months before Jake was hired by Sarah. Cheyenne remembers everyone talking about how Sarah hired a male in this primarily female dominated field. Jake says Cheyenne caught his eye right away. Jake was annoyingly social, always volunteering to host get-togethers at his house, and eager to participate in team/office bonding activities. Jake and Cheyenne continued to be co-workers for a couple years and slowly grew their friendship.
In 2019, Jake, being the amazing driver he is, wrecked his car shortly before needing to travel back to Iowa for his cousins wedding. Jake sweet talked Cheyenne into renting her car with her tagging along. Cheyenne made it clear that they were "just friends and co-workers".
Cheyenne and Jake continued to grow their relationship, taking many trips to Iowa for Jake's family functions, watching football together, going fishing, and walking around the lake. Cheyenne quickly grew a strong love for Jake's daughters, Elizabeth and Jazlyn.
In January 2022, Cheyenne and Jake took a big leap and moved in together. They bought a house in February 2022 and have continued to conquer home projects together, even though Cheyenne continually says there will be no more projects or furniture re-arranging with Jake (Jake really likes to do these things and always talks Cheyenne into another home project-Cheyenne always caves).
Cheyenne and Jake welcomed their son, Rippley, to their family in January 2023. While their family has continued to grow, Cheyenne and Jake have remained committed to their relationship and enjoy watching the Kansas City Chiefs and doing various home projects. They both have a passion for helping others and have a large place in their hearts for children in foster care. This is a staple that has bonded the two and they hope to continue having an influence in the foster care realm in their future.
