I met Chiedza in September of 2012 at the University of Illinois College of Law's annual Barn Dance - a dance I almost didn't attend. However, after much coaxing by my friends I decided to go. While at the dance a girl walked by who I instantly pinned as being the prettiest girl in the room. As the night progressed, I worked up the courage to say something and approached her as she was leaving. I broke the ice by telling Chiedza how pretty I thought she was. It worked because she agreed to give me her number so I could take her on a hay ride that night. While we missed the final hay ride, we had our first date shortly after (at a corn maze nonetheless). Little did I know that Barn Dance would be the beginning of a beautiful friendship and lead to a relationship filled with laughter, joy and love.

How We Met

Roderick proposed to me on May 1, 2016. He had it all planned out - my mom was set to return from a trip from Zimbabwe that day but he'd convinced her to tell me her flight had been delayed (I'd later find out she'd known of his proposal plan all along); the day before the proposal he'd arranged for my best friend to take me out for a "girls day," to get our nails done; and the morning of the proposal, while we were getting ready for church Roderick convinced me we'd be heading to our friend's anniversary party at Gas Works Park.The weather in Seattle was perfect that day. As we showed up to Gas Works, I did not realize that everyone in the park was watching us as we made the assent to the sun dial at the top of the hill. As we got to the top I spotted a beautiful picnic blanket set up with flowers, a bucket of champagne, and fresh fruit. "This is nice!" I said to to Roderick. As he stepped on the blanket he agreed "Yeah it is nice, we should take it!" I looked at him in shock. "What're you doing?!" I said, "we can't take this!" Roderick then dropped down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. All of our spectators congratulated us with a large round of applause. The rest is history...
