In order to get to Petrolo Winery you must come from one of the main airports. You have a few options of how to get to the villa.1.) You may rent a car and drive yourself2.) Take a train to the nearest city of Mercatale and we can pick you up there

This airport is about a 45 minute drive to the villa, it is the nearest airport.

Florence Airport, Peretola

The Rome airport is also an option. It is about a 2.5 hr. drive to the villa. If you choose to fly into Rome and are not planning to rent a car, I recommend taking a train to Florence and exploring here for a day before heading to the villa. The train schedule to the villa is typically not convenient from Rome and is much more convenient from Florence.

Transportation

Italy is a fairly easy country to navigate. Google maps will be your best friend. I have found that Google maps is more accurate than Apple maps over there. If you rent a car, driving is manageable, they drive on the same side of the road and most driving will be in the country on rural roads. If you choose not to rent a car, using google maps for train and busing is a great option! The trains and buses are very easy to use and affordable. Additionally Uber and the Taxi Ride App are helpful as well.

Communication

Most American cell plans do not work abroad. You have a few options. The first being to communicate with your service provider prior to travel and accommodate your plan for international use. The next would be to turn your phone to airplane mode for the duration of your trip and only use it when on wifi. There is wifi all over Italy and popping into a cafe for a coffee and to use the wifi is just fine. Another option is to purchase a portable wifi device to bring with you. This way you will always have wifi accessible. Do a little research to find which option will work best for you!

Whats App

Given the fact that many phone plans do not accommodate international travel, it is helpful to download the app Whatsapp in order to send messages back and forth and make calls with wifi. IMessage and facetime also works if you and the person you are trying to reach have iPhones. Our wedding planner's name is Pia her what's app number. (+39) 333 88 48 499

Transportation and Communication

We are in the process of putting together some activities for guest to opt to participate in. Some current ideas are cooking courses, wine tasting, biking, and tours. A car rental is not a necessary part of your trip, however, there are many fun towns, castles, and cities near the villa that would require a car to access if that is something you are interested in.
