After all the twists and turns of wedding planning, Chris and I decided to toss the traditional wedding playbook out the window. Instead, we’re inviting our closest friends and family on a big camping trip to celebrate! (We also have a plan for those who do not want to camp, please keep reading!)

Here’s the plan…

Thursday – We’ll be hosting a “Rehearsal Dinner” as a chance for everyone to meet, mingle, and hang out! Since we’re not having a formal wedding party and there’s nothing to rehearse, this dinner is all about spending quality time together. We want to enjoy everyone’s company and make the most of this time together!

We plan to do a “Gear Drop” for those camping. If you’re bringing camping gear, please have it ready for staging on Thursday night so we can shuttle it over on Friday. We’ll store everything inside a large tent at the glacier for use on Saturday. More details to come.

Friday – This is your free day to explore Petersburg! There are local tour guides offering trips to LeConte Glacier (a VERY different glacier than the one we will be married at…Baird Glacier), or you can go fishing, kayaking, drive out the road, take a hike, or simply enjoy a beer. Meanwhile, a group will head to Baird Glacier to finalize setup for the big day. We’re also planning a group dinner in town on Friday—more details to come!

Saturday/Sunday – Wedding Day!

We’ll kick off the day with a 2-hour sail across Frederick Sound to Baird Glacier aboard a 100-foot fishing tender. Please note, boarding the boat may require climbing a “pool” style ladder. A light brunch will be served while underway. With the gorgeous weather we’re expecting, we plan to hang out on deck during the sail, but there’s also indoor space available if you need a break from the sun.

We need an accurate headcount for the weekend—how many people will be attending, who’s riding on the tender, and whether you’ll be camping. Please keep an eye out for the RSVP poll, as we need these numbers to figure out if there’s space available aboard.

If you’ve already spoken with either of our parents or texted us, please still fill out the poll. Our brains are starting to run out of space to keep track of everything!

Seating will be a bit unconventional throughout the day, so please keep that in mind. Once we arrive at Baird Glacier, we’ll use small skiffs to shuttle everyone to the beach for the ceremony and reception. Dinner will be served early as our main meal of the day.

We’ll be staying overnight, and we’d love for you to camp with us under the midnight sun! However, if you want to return to town or need catch a flight on Sunday, there will be a boat heading back to Petersburg on Saturday evening. For those staying and camping, we’ll sail back to Petersburg on Sunday mid-morning after enjoying a delicious biscuit and gravy breakfast on the beach. IMPORTANT: If you’re flying out on Sunday, please do not camp, as you’ll miss your flight.

Life jackets will be required for everyone, and we’ll start collecting them in Petersburg for your use. (Petersburg folks, if you have any spare life jackets, please let me know!)

The ceremony will be about ¾ of a mile from the beach, roughly a 30-minute walk to the altar. The path includes uneven footing, boulders, and natural terrain, so it’ll be a slow and steady walk. We’ll take our time, starting the ceremony once everyone has arrived and had a chance to rehydrate…because let’s be honest, it’s going to be sunny, right?!

Children are more than welcome, but please keep in mind that we'll be in the wilderness, surrounded by water. We can always tie the little ones to a maypole and let them run around, all tethered together for hours of fun!

Please NO DOGS unless you’ve personally spoken to me about it. Ember and a few of her doggie friends will be in attendance.

Please check the weather beforehand and dress appropriately! We’re crossing our fingers for sun, but since we live in a rainforest, it’s always a good idea to double-check the forecast.

We’ll be dressing to the nines, but you don’t have to! The dress code is Alaska Casual—whether you want to dress up, dress down, rock a dress, wear rain gear, or sandals, anything goes. Just wear what keeps you comfortable for the weather. We’ll have a large tent on-site where you can change, whether you're switching into warm layers, a fancy dress, or whatever fits your mood. The choice is yours!

PS!!! We understand that this wasn’t the original plan when invitations were first sent, and we know this change may be a big adjustment for many. If you have any major mobility limitations, young children you’re concerned about, or if the updated schedule feels overwhelming, please don’t feel any pressure to attend. We completely understand that this is a big ask, and we respect it if you’re unable to join for any reason. Your presence is appreciated, but your comfort and well-being come first!
