Arcata Farmer's Market: A can't miss! The cutest farmer's market in America. Saturday morning on the Arcata Plaza.
Arcata Community Forest: The perfect place for an easy first hike in the redwoods, with a loop from the parking lot that you can complete in less than 30 minutes. Entrance at 14th and Union.
There is a longer 2.5 mile loop through the redwoods, the Beith Creek Trail for those that would enjoy a longer visit to the forest.
Arcata Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary. Chris's favorite place for an inspirational nature walk. Enjoy this rare, protected coastal wetland, and bring your binoculars if you're the birding type. Yes, Chris and Chelsea have started bird-watching here.
Dining
Trinidad Bay Eatery & Gallery. A local gastro-diner with an excellent beer and wine selection. Perfect for a casual apres-hike lunch in Trinidad.
Wildflower Cafe & Bakery. A vegetarian restaurant with food so good that even non-vegetarians will love it. Chris has been eating here for over 20 years!
Cafe Brio. Situated on the corner of the Arcata Plaza, Cafe Brio brought the Slow Food movement to Arcata. Featuring delicious coffee, pastries, sandwiches, and breakfast items made from seasonal, organic, and local ingredients.
Renata's Creperie. Close to the plaza and the perfect brunch location!
Shopping
Northtown Books and Tin Can Mailman. Arcata's two independent bookstores are Chris's favorite places to shop. They are both on H Street about 1 block away from each other.
