Our Wedding

We mean that literally. Miya was gearing up to head to the University of Washington for her first quarter as a transfer student and Chris was back from the University of California on summer break before his senior year. Chris was working his summer job at a local boat rental shop which happened to look over the gas pier of the Port of Poulsbo, where Miya was also working her summer job. And so commenced a summer of Chris reading his book on the balcony of the boat shop waiting to get a glimpse of the cute girl filling up boats, and Miya wondering why the cute guy at the boat rental shop wouldn't talk to her (or even look at her) as we passed in the parking lot. Until finally, actual fireworks brought us together and we had our first conversation during Poulsbo's Independence Day celebration. About one month later, we began dating long distance when Chris had to return to Berkeley to lead band camp and Miya began her Oceanography program in Seattle. Following graduation Chris began his career in Real Estate. After Miya's graduation she worked for about a year in Seattle while Chris was slinging property in Kitsap County. Then, Miya decided to go to the Monterey Bay in California to pursue her Master's degree. Flash forward after 5 years of long distance dating, to moving in together back in Kitsap County, weathering a global pandemic, growing our family with our fur-babies Marsha, Po, and Ziggy, buying our first home together, and suddenly 5 years of living together in the books, the time is finally right to do the wedding thing! Chris proposed on the same gas pier where we met and Miya said yes! We have thought for many years we would get married one day and we can't wait to take some time to celebrate our relationship with everyone we love.

There are several hotels that are within walking distance of The Ruins. We will be staying at The Maxwell Hotel and we hope you will join us by taking advantage of our room block. If you are flying in from out of town, plan to fly to SeaTac airport. It is about a 20 minute Uber/Lyft from the venue area.

The Maxwell Hotel is located just a few blocks, about a five minute walk, from The Ruins. We have the block open for both the Friday and the Saturday so you can book for both nights or just the night of the wedding for the same room rate. The Hampton Inn is located just one block away from The Ruins and is another great choice for your stay. We do not have a room block at the Hampton.

This hotel is right across from the venue and is the closest option! We do not have a room block at the Four Points.

Wish Us A Thousand Years Of Happiness 

We are excited to celebrate our heritage as a part of our wedding, including both of our Irish and Miya's Japanese roots. In Japan, it is tradition to gift 1,000 paper cranes to a wedding couple to symbolize a blessing of 1,000 years of happiness. Included in your mailed RSVP are a few sheets of origami paper - we would love for you to fold and contribute your own paper crane to kick off our 1,000 years right! See below for a "how to" (YouTube is a great reference too!). We will have a place to drop off your cranes when you arrive on the big day.

To honor our Irish roots, our wedding color palette was inspired by the Seattle tartan. A tartan is a family or region specific plaid pattern to identify allegiances to specific places or people. Chris's suit was also inspired by both the traditional County Wexford tartan (significant to the O'Morchoe family) and the Seattle tartan with a modern spin. As it turns out, the Seattle tartan was registered in 1990 in the Scottish Register of Tartans before the County Wexford tartan was in 1997!
