Chris and Chelsey

Picture of Chris and Chelsey

Chris and I met in 2012 at a Halloween party one of our mutual friends was having. Both of us happened to make last minute decisions to go: Chris because he was deciding on whether or not he wanted to move into the house the party was being held, and I because I didn't know most of the people at that party at the time and was waiting on a friend to go with me. Chris wasn't wearing a Halloween costume, so our first interaction was me making fun of him for not wearing one. He grabbed a spider decoration on the wall, stuck in on his chest and claimed he was wearing a "spider-man" costume, which I thought was pretty impressive.

Two months later a bunch of my friends and I met up and Chris happened to be with that group. We had a blast together that night, and then talked almost every day after. It took us 6 months to actually go on a date together, but the wait was worth it. He took me to Mitchell's Fish Market (before the health scandals… crisis averted!) I barely remember that date, but I knew then I really wanted to be around this guy!

The four years that followed were filled with some of the best experiences together: trips with family and friends to South Carolina, Louisville and Chicago, dates going to escape rooms and seeing shows at the Aronoff. Chris tells me to this day that he decided for sure he wanted to marry me when we were on a trip to Sunset Beach with his family. That’s when his proposal plan was set in motion.

In March 2017, Chris took me to Chicago to see the musical Hamilton. Lucky for him, I was so excited to see the show I didn't notice he was acting strange. Later that night, he suggested we take a walk around downtown Chicago. While we were walking around we kept stopping in different locations and he would get frustrated and want to move on. I was super confused because he claimed he wanted to walk around town so he could get pictures of the city at night, but he wasn't taking a single picture. Turns out, he was trying to find the perfectly lit downtown location to propose. Finally, he stopped me in this dimly lit courtyard, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He told me later he wanted to propose so badly but he couldn't find the perfect location, which is why he proposed where he did. And the rest is history!

We are so excited for you to share our special day!
