Our story began in kindergarten, where we met over safety scissors and a bucket of crayons. We were competitive in school and always tried to out-do each other academically. Fast forward to middle school and we lost contact, but reconnected as friends in our freshman year of high school. We soon realized that only we would be able to tolerate each other, and would save the rest of the world from our God given uniqueness.
We had gone to a young adults ministry retreat with a lot of our friends for a weekend. Sara's mom had given me her engagement from their wedding. So, I decided that just in case, I would bring the ring with me to the retreat. I was hiding it in my pocket the entire time. Fast forward a couple of days, me and the other dudes were chopping some firewood so we could have a source of heat that night. Later, I had gone on a little hike with my good friend Jerod, and we talked a lot. During that hike, we discovered the location in the picture below. So I just looked over at Jerod when we got back to camp and said, "Dude, I need your help. I am gonna propose to Sara here." The excitement from the rest of the guys when they found out really spoke to how much they all care. Honestly, I was taken aback by how much support I was given that it made me nervous. But I was so happy that they all wanted to help as much as they could. But, us guys, are not the best at planning things at all... So I asked our Young Adults Pastor Matt for help, and he didn't know what to do either. So I went to his wife Janelle, but apparently Sara's long time good friend Naomi overheard. I was SOOOOO scared Sara would find out, but Naomi pulled through. Her and Janelle came up with the beautiful plan to execute the proposal when the rain stopped, but the rain did not stop. Fast forward to the next morning, I was laying in my tent praying, and begging that this was all in God's will. I asked a couple of people to come and be a part of it, and honestly I would have chickened out without the support of everybody. Anywho, a few of our friends were at the bottom of the hill watching, and when Sara said yes I was so excited all I could do was walk away and punch the air out of excitement.
