The DIA is a located about a mile from the St. Regis Hotel, conveniently close to the Q-line's Ferry Street stop. It costs $20 to visit, but the Rivera Court (a four-wall mural painted by Diego Rivera directly onto the walls) makes it worth it!

The Heidelberg Project

The Heidelberg Project is an outdoor art environment in close to downtown. The collection of vibrantly painted houses and installations is artist Tyree Guyton's protest statement against the deterioration of Detroit neighborhoods following the 1967 riots. The Heidelberg project is free to visit from 8am - 7pm and is located about 4 miles from the St. Regis hotel

Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation

The Henry Ford Museum is about 10 miles from the St. Regis Hotel in the suburb of Dearborn, so it will definitely require a car to get to. It's located in the same complex as Greenfield Village and the Ford Rouge River Factory.


The museum is dedicated to the history of American progress, with a big focus on the cars that shaped American history, such as the Rose Parks bus, JFK's presidential limousine and the Oscar Meyer wiener mobile. It costs about $34-$36 to enter.

Greenfield Village

Greenfield Village is an "open-air museum" located about 10 miles from the Saint Regis Hotel, in the same complex as the Henry Ford Museum and the Ford Rouge River Plant. Greenfield Village includes historical buildings re-located to the grounds, model T rides, and costumed presenters. It costs about $37 to enter.

Ford Piquette Avenue Plant Museum

The Ford Piquette Avenue plant, built in 1904, was the brithplace of the Model T. Henry Ford worked through different versions of the vehicle from his office on the second floor. The plant is now a museum that is open to the public from 10am to 4pm with optional guided tours. Tickets are $20/person and the plant is located less than a mile from the St. Regis hotel.

Eastern Market

Eastern Market is a a neighborhood and market district located just north of downtown Detroit. It includes a large public market, including art, flowers, and other goods, and an open air farmers market and is open from 6am to 4pm on Saturdays. It is about 4 miles from the St. Regis Hotel.

Belle Isle Park

Belle Isle is a 982 acre island park in the middle of the Detroit River. Belle Isle is home to an aquarium, botanic gardens, a Great Lakes museum, a golf course, and the Detroit Grand Prix, among other monuments and attractions. Belle Isle is accessible by car and it costs $11 to visit (free if you have the recreation passport on your license plate).


Again, probably will not be this green or sunny in early May.

Motown Museum

Located 1 mile from the St. Regis Hotel, the museum celebrates Motown's contribution to music history, including access to the iconic Hitsville, USA and Studio A recording studios. The museum is open from 10am - 6pm and tickets cost $20/person.

Fisher Building

The Fisher Building is a beautiful landmark located a three minute walk from the St. Regis Hotel. The 1928 art deco style building was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1989. Currently it houses shops at the ground level as well as the Fisher Theatre, your gateway to Broadway in Detroit. You can book a tour for ~$18 from Pure Detroit if you want the full history, but access to the ground floor shops is free.

Monument to Joe Louis “The Fist”

This iconic Detroit landmark celebrates boxer Joe Louis' legacy in both sports and civil rights. It's about 4-5 miles from the Hotel St. Regis, but it's in the heart of downtown Detroit, so easy to check some of the other sights and sounds of the city at the same time.

The Spirit of Detroit

Detroit's other iconic landmark is located minutes from the Fist of Joe Louis in the heart of downtown Detroit. The monument was commissioned by the Detroit-Wayne Joint Buildings Authority in 1955 to represent "hope, progress, and the spirit of man."

Detroit Riverwalk

The Detroit Riverwalk is a 3-mile trail following the Detroit River in the heart of downtown. This is a great way to wave hello to Canada while also appreciating a long and ongoing process to restore and revitalize Detroit's industrial waterfront.


I will admit that this pic is probably misleading though, as it will most likely not be this green or sunny in early May

Detroit Zoo

The Detroit Zoo is located a little bit farther from the St. Regis Hotel, in the nearby suburb of Royal Oak. This will definitely require a car to get to, but if you like zoos it's a great place to walk around. Ticket prices vary, but it's usually around $14 for general admission if you buy online and $27 at the gate.
