Q + A

What is a Kaloo Palata?

An Assyrian wedding tradition in which the groom's side comes to take the bride from her household and bring her into theirs before the wedding ceremony. Typically a brother figure of the bride will block the door and demand a dowry before letting them pass. There will be drinks and finger-foods along with an instrumental performance of a traditional Zurna and Davoola.

Do I need two outfits for the Kaloo Palata and reception?

Guests usually opt for polished daytime attire for the Kaloo Palata and church ceremony, then change into formal gowns or suits for the evening reception.

For daytime, think of a light, elegant summer dress that’s appropriate for church, or a nice button-down shirt paired with slacks.

What is the plan after church and before the reception?

There will be about a 3 and a half hour gap in between church and the reception. This is your time to go back to your hotel or home to relax, freshen up or change before the fun begins!
