For a dose of art and history, visit the Taft Museum of Art – an intimate fine arts museum housed in a stately circa-1820 mansion (downtown’s oldest wooden residence). Stepping inside feels like entering a gracious home of the past, yet the galleries brim with an impressive collection of treasures. You’ll find European old masters – including works by renowned artists like Rembrandt and J.M.W. Turner – as well as 19th-century American paintings and decorative arts ranging from porcelains to period furniture. The museum is also famous for the beautifully preserved Duncanson murals in its foyer, eight monumental landscape panels painted in the 1850s that are now recognized as a National Historic Landmark.

A world-class art museum in scenic Eden Park, founded in 1881 as the first purpose-built art museum west of the Alleghenies. Its collection of over 67,000 works spanning 6,000 years of history makes it one of the most comprehensive in the Midwest.

Cincinnati Art Museum

A cutting-edge modern art museum (housed in a striking Zaha Hadid-designed building) that focuses on “the art of the last five minutes,” showcasing new developments in painting, sculpture, photography, and more. The CAC has no permanent collection, so visitors encounter rotating exhibitions of contemporary art – it famously hosted artists like Andy Warhol early in their careers.

Contemporary Arts Center

An inspiring museum on the downtown riverfront devoted to Underground Railroad history and the broader ongoing quest for freedom. Opened in 2004, this “museum of conscience” uses powerful exhibits and storytelling to honor the courage of those who escaped slavery and to promote freedom for all people.

National Underground Railroad Freedom Center

A fascinating multi-museum complex housed in a grand Art Deco train station from 1933. This National Historic Landmark features several museums under one dome (history, science, children’s museum, and an OMNIMAX theater). Even if you don’t tour the exhibits, the restored Union Terminal building – with its massive rotunda and mosaics – is an architectural must-see for history and art deco fans. (Its where they shot the Hall of Justice!)

Cincinnati Museum Center

Cincinnati’s famous 19th-century neighborhood, originally settled by German immigrants. OTR is one of the nation’s largest intact historic districts with the country’s biggest collection of Italianate architecture. Today it’s a vibrant area where you can admire beautifully restored buildings, visit landmarks like Music Hall, and enjoy boutique shops, cafes, art galleries, and breweries. Strolling through OTR offers a unique blend of history, culture, and trendy nightlife all in one place.

Over-the-Rhine Historic District (OTR)

Smale Riverfront Park is a beautiful urban playground along the Ohio River, bridging downtown’s two stadiums with 45 acres of riverside fun. This vibrant park features something for everyone: a whimsical carousel, imaginative playgrounds, gardens and lawns for picnics, and multiple fountain plazas where kids (and kids at heart) can splash around on warm days. Don’t miss the giant porch swings facing the water – they’re perfect for relaxing and taking in views of the skyline and the historic Roebling Suspension Bridge. Scattered along the riverwalk are interactive surprises like an oversized foot-piano you can hop across and a life-size flying pig statue to climb on (a nod to Cincinnati’s famous flying pig legend).

Smale Riverfront Park

Ohio’s oldest continuously operated public market (est. 1852) and a must-visit for foodies. This open-air market in OTR is bustling with local vendors selling farm-fresh produce, meats, cheeses, baked goods, and international foods. Grab lunch from one of the many prepared food stalls (think authentic Vietnamese pho, Belgian waffles, or Cincinnati-style goetta), and enjoy the lively atmosphere with street performers, especially on weekends.

Findlay Market

A historic 110-year-old movie theater in the Clifton Gaslight District known for indie and foreign films. Originally opened in 1911 as an opera house, the Esquire today is an art-house cinema that screens independent, classic, and international films (often the only place in town to catch limited-release movies) With its restored Art Deco façade and community vibe (saved from closure by locals in the 1980s), it’s a great option for film buffs looking for a unique cinema experience.

Esquire Theatre

As Cincinnati’s oldest coffee house (brewing since 1973), Coffee Emporium is a beloved local institution that excels at crafting the city’s finest brews. With multiple locations – including a flagship shop in trendy Over-the-Rhine – this roaster focuses on ethically sourced, in-house roasted beans, ensuring every cup is fresh and flavorful. Each café offers a warm, inviting atmosphere and charming decor, making it a favorite hangout for locals and visitors alike.

Coffee Emporium

A one-of-a-kind underground bar four stories beneath Vine Street in OTR, set in a 19th-century brewery lagering tunnel. Ghost Baby delivers an intimate, almost speakeasy vibe with craft cocktails often lauded as the “best in Cincinnati.” Guests love the incredible atmosphere – think dim lighting, live jazz or DJ sets, and plush velvet seating – making each night here a memorable adventure. (Reservations recommended due to its popularity and limited space.)

Ghost Baby

Tucked away in the historic Mt. Adams neighborhood, The Blind Lemon is a cozy speakeasy-style bar that’s been a Cincinnati hidden gem for nearly 60 years. Follow the narrow, lantern-lit alley and you’ll emerge into a brick patio garden – lush with foliage in summer and warmed by a fire pit in winter. Inside, the tavern glows with firelight and Tiffany lamps, its walls packed with quirky vintage memorabilia that lend it an old-world charm. The Blind Lemon (as regulars call it) is known for craft cocktails, local beers, and live music seven nights a week, showcasing Cincinnati’s vibrant local music scene.

Don’t leave town without trying two Cincinnati classics: Skyline Chili and Graeter’s Ice Cream. Skyline Chili is a 75-year-old local chili parlor famous for its unique sweet-and-spiced chili served over spaghetti and crowned with heaps of cheddar (the “3-way”) – a true Queen City comfort food. For dessert, Graeter’s Ice Cream (family-run since 1870) offers rich French-pot ice cream; their Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip is legendary.
