A guy from Michigan and a woman from Colorado walk into a bar… and the rest, as they say, is history. It all started with a spark, a shared love for the arts, and the fact that they are both easy on the eyes. From their very first date at Old Ebbitt Grill in Washington, D.C., they found something in each other that felt both thrilling and comforting. There was an immediate connection—part curiosity, part chemistry—that set the stage for everything that followed. Over the last five years, their relationship has been a journey of discovery. From weekend getaways to cross-country adventures, they’ve explored 26 states and traveled to Mexico, always with the same sense of wonder and the same shared desire to see the world. Their bond has grown stronger with each trip, each new experience, and each challenge they've faced together. What began as a mutual appreciation for art and culture blossomed into a deep and unwavering partnership. One of constant curiosity of what life has to offer and has always kept them falling more in love with each passing day. Whether it was attending a concert at Wolf Trap, catching a Nationals game, or experiencing a musical at the Kennedy Center, Christian and McKendrey have always sought out moments that bring joy, laughter, and new memories. In Washington, D.C., they’ve discovered not only the city’s best eateries but also each other’s quirks and strengths. Their love for trying new restaurants has become a bit of a tradition—always on the hunt for the next great spot to savor, laugh, and share a meal. The anticipation of “what’s next” is something they’ve built into every part of their life, whether that’s a new culinary find or another chapter in their shared story. And have learned the most important rule in life, always leave room for dessert! Through ups and downs, challenges and triumphs, the support they give one another has been unwavering. The foundation of their relationship has always been built on trust, mutual respect, and the unshakeable belief that together, they can conquer anything. Flights & Airport Information

This is the closest airport to Downtown DC and the hotels we have chosen for our guests, and the airport that Christian and McKendrey prefer. Both the Hilton and the Courtyard hotels are actually only a 5 minute drive from the airport. The airport code is DCA. Both hotels below have an airport shuttle from DCA to the hotels. The airport also has a Metro stop that is an easy walk from baggage claim.

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport

Another airport that is close to the larger DC Area is Dulles International Airport. This airport is roughly a 45 minute drive away from the hotels we have reserved, and there is NO airport shuttle provided by the hotels. The airport code is IAD. This airport can be accessed by the Metro and has a Metro Stop at the airport, so you can still use public transportation and avoid the rental car if you want!

Hotel Room Block Information

We recommend booking hotels as soon as possible due to our wedding date falling on a holiday weekend. There will be lots of visitors to the DC area so planning ahead is suggested. We have two different hotel room block options below. The hotels are within a 8 minute walking distance between each other and are between 10 - 15 minute walk from the closest DC Metro stop. Both hotels offer Airport Shuttle transportation from Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA). Both hotels are near an area called National Landing that has shopping, restaurants, and more!

If you prefer to make reservations over the phone or if you do not see your desired type of room listed in the available rooms please call 703-418-6800 and reference the “McGown McGeachy Wedding Room Block" to make your reservations. If you are having any other issues booking your room please let us know so we can reach out to our event manager. You must book BEFORE September 9 to receive our discounted rate. Our McGown/McGeachy Wedding Room Block rates are good for 3 days prior to October 9 and 3 days after October 11 (dependent on the hotel's availability) in case you would like to make your trip a longer vacation. Our guests also receive a discounted parking rate of $15/night.

Other Transportation Information

Washington DC has amazing public transportation! We highly encourage skipping the cost of a rental car and parking and using public transportation. Our subway system is called the Metro and there's also Metro Buses. A few things to know:1. You will need what is called a SmartTrip card. You can get these from any of the Metro Stations from the machines or it is also available on mobile and you can have it on your phone. Learn more at the website below. 2. The website below is the official Metro website, you can find all kinds of information including maps, times, schedules, and also trip planner. 3. McKendrey's favorite app is called "Citymapper". It is available on iPhone and Android and is one of the best trip planners using public transportation and will tell you the exact time, cost, and options! 4. Please note times and hours as the Metro does not run 24 hours and has specific hours of operations. Each Metro station has specific first train and last train times.

A few general suggestions for things to do or areas to explore are below. Things To Do in DC, VA, and more! 

1. The National Mall 		*Highlights include Washington Monument, the Capitol Building, and Lincoln Memorial 2. The Tidal Basin 		* Highlights include Thomas Jefferson Memorial, Cherry Blossom Trees, and Martin Luther King Jr. Monument 3. Smithsonian Museums 		*Highlights include Air &amp; Space, American History, Natural History, American Indian, African History and Art, National Gallery of Art, Portrait Gallery and lots more! 4. Arlington National Cemetery 5. Rock Creek Park, in case you would like to take a walk or hike in the city and see the October fall colors 6. Waterfront Shopping &amp; Dining 		*Explore areas like Georgetown, The Wharf and Navy Yard. All 3 areas are on the water and have great restaurants, shopping and just fun to walk around. You can even take a Water Taxi between Georgetown and the Wharf if you want! 7. Watch some sports! Both Hockey and Basketball will be in season and you can catch some games at Capital One Arena! 8. Old Town Alexandria 		* Highlights include great restaurants, shopping, waterfront, Torpedo Art Factory and cobblestone streets! You can also take historical walking tour or even a ghost tour at night! 9. Pentagon Shopping Mall 		*For those who want to stay closer to the hotels just 1 metro stop away or a 30 minute walk you can explore Pentagon City Mall and Pentagon Row. 10. Catch a show! Whether a play, musical, or concert we have so many venues to choose from including The National Theater, Warner Theater, 9:30 Club, The Anthem, and so many more!
