In September of 2020, I was attending a bachelorette trip in Kansas City for a very close friend. Naturally, girls love to post lots of pictures. One picture in particular really caught Cameron's eye, mostly because of the hot pink hair I had. It turned out he was also apart of the wedding party and was very interested in getting to know me. Calling me his "wife" and saying that he wanted to buy me flowers. I wasn't really looking for any sort of relationship at the time, but I decided to give it a chance anyways.
At the time, Cameron was living in Garden City, and I was living in Manhattan. Despite being four hours away from each other, we talked every day. It wasn't until the wedding November that we actually got to meet in person. Of course, he could talk a big game over the phone, but once we met in person he was so nervous he could hardly talk to me. Eventually a friend finally convinced him to ask me to dance, we danced and laughed all night.
Several week later came the I love you's and we were officially dating. Cameron would come visit me in Manhattan any time that he could. When he wasn't visiting, we were on facetime 24/7. He came to visit one weekend in April of 2021 and decided to stay one extra night. The next morning on his drive home, he got into a bad car wreck which ended him up in the hospital in Salina with a broken hip. I took off work for almost a whole week just to be with him. He came to stay with me for the next two months so I could take care of him. I think we both knew at that point that we were meant to be together, because we were officially living together by that September.
A year later, we were living in our new apartment together, and decided to play a drinking game. Cameron got drunk a little too fast, and decided to let out a secret that he had been keeping. He left the room and came back with a ring to propose with. Most people probably wouldn't think that was very special or romantic, but to me it was one of the most special moments I think we've ever shared. Now we can't wait to share our special day with all of the people we love!
