Brunch, Bowling, and Bradley
A true story, just a little more cinematic.
Christina didn’t expect much from that Saturday morning. She was mostly going for her favorite meal of the day: Breakfast!
March 5th the Diner was packed, buzzing with the soft clatter of dishes and conversations that smelled like maple syrup and espresso. Bradley was seated in the back at a table, when Christina arrived a few minutes later. Bradley stood up, as she nervously approached him and introduced herself. Bradley introduced himself, not in a fairy-tale-prince way. He didn’t sweep in with roses or cheesy lines. He just smiled nervously. And when they sat down, it felt… easy. Like they’d already known each other for some time.
They talked over coffee and eggs and pancakes, about nothing and everything. He was funny, and smart without trying to prove it. She found herself leaning in, laughing more than she had in months. Something clicked—not loud, not flashy—just quietly, like puzzle pieces finally finding their place. During brunch, Bradley bragged about his bowling game, and without hesitation took off to go bowling.
And that’s how they ended up in rented shoes in a 5 lane bowling alley, surrounded by neon lights and retro music. He was not, as he promised, great at bowling—but she cheered every time he knocked down a pin, and she couldn't stop laughing. Somewhere between a split and a gutter ball, she realized she didn’t want this to be a one-time date. And it wasn’t.
That Saturday turned into more—more meals together, more concerts nights, trips, sporting events, dancing, and more inside jokes and late-night talks. Slowly, joyfully, their lives began to merge.
Now, every time Christina hears the sound of a bowling ball rolling down a lane, she thinks of that first date. The coffee, the laughter, the man with the bright smile who made her heart feel at home.
And soon, she’ll walk down the aisle toward him.
Because love doesn’t always arrive with fireworks. Sometimes, it shows up with pancakes and a bowling score of 97.
