David and I met on a blind date set up by a friend of each of us. My college roommate's husband organized a date for us at the Iowa Taproom in Des Moines. We hit it off night one, bonding over travel as I had just returned from Arizona and David returned from Chile.

David proposed on June 11th, 2023. I was excited for this day to come but was absolutely clueless on when it was going to happen! David had decided for his birthday weekend that we should go camping and fishing in Decorah, Iowa. I was excited to go along. David invited another couple along, and I even made a comment about how he just wanted to fish and brought along someone else for me so he could fish more.

We had a wonderful day Saturday fishing (I even caught my first trout!) and going on hikes to see a waterfall and ice caves. It was very busy and felt like everyone was in Decorah that weekend with us. After exploring the breweries and cidery in town, we headed back to the campsite where David asked me to get up early and go for a hike Sunday morning. I agreed with a bit of resistance to setting an alarm.

But we got up early and got ready. Luckily, we were able to drink coffee before heading up Pulpit Rock. I attempted to make everyone take the long way to the lookout point but was overruled. Once we got to the top of Pulpit Rock to the scenic overlook, we stopped to take in the view. After talking for awhile, David got down on one knee. I was so surprised. David picked out the most gorgeous ring. To this day, I will still stare at it in awe!
