Our Story

Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end

It began, as some of the sweetest stories do, with something simple. In their case, it was crepes.

They met at Bunco, both still married then, both living lives that hadn’t yet intersected in any meaningful way.

She knew him only as “the German husband,” a man with an accent she couldn’t help but listen to—especially while he stood there making crepes, one of her lifelong loves. He noticed her too, though far more casually, tucking her away in his mind as “one of the blondes,” never imagining she would one day become the center of his world.

Life, however, has a way of rearranging everything.

His wife passed away, and she visited her during hospice, offering comfort without knowing how intertwined their paths would one day become.

Years later, she found herself staring at a form and, for the first time, checking the box marked “widow.” The word felt foreign, heavy, wrong. She posted about the strangeness of it, and he reached out—partly to check on her, partly to tease her that she wasn’t special. He would soon learn just how wrong he was.

Their conversations began gently, almost shyly, and then deepened with surprising ease. They discovered that, beyond both having been widowed too young, they shared an eclectic love of music and movies, the kind of tastes that reveal a person’s soul. Before long, their daily phone calls became the moments they looked forward to most—the bright threads stitching two separate lives into one.

Their first date was at Katherine’s Biergarten, a place that felt almost destined: the girl who once tutored German and the man who had crossed an ocean from Germany. On their second date, he cooked dinner for her, and something in the air shifted.

From that point on, the story didn’t just unfold—it blossomed.

Two and a half years later, on Valentine’s Day, he proposed, proving he was right when he said he had something far better than a card.

And now, nearly four years after the first date, they will celebrate their marriage on 6/6/26.

A new beginning, born from the end of another.

A love that arrived quietly, grew steadily, and became something beautiful—something meant.
