Our Wedding

Marisol and Chris were born approximately 4,169 miles away from each other, but were brought together by a mixture of fate, good luck, and the Hinge algorithm. Chris’ Hinge profile said he wanted “someone to sing karaoke with.” Marisol’s Hinge profile asked for “someone to hold hands while we laugh during our grocery shopping.” Both of their wishes came true.&nbsp;&nbsp; Their first date began on POC time. They met at Fotografika, a museum showcasing modern photography. They arrived at our first date almost simultaneously, bumping at the entrance. Chris would have never guessed that this meeting would lead to an altar in Lima, Peru. He also didn’t know this goblin of a wife was always going to make his life that much more loving, yet chaotic. Marisol had almost cancelled their first date, mostly because she had swiped so much that she had developed a hand twitch, where she was phantom-swiping left. In any case, that first date kickstarted a series of life events.&nbsp; When Marisol saw Chris for the first time, she was determined to have a second date together. At the end of their time at the museum, Marisol asked Chris if he wanted to go karaoking. They ended up at Turntable Chicken Jazz, and Marisol remembered how hard it was to eat fried chicken gracefully, while Chris had no shame. Chris asked her for a second date at the end of the first one after having their first kiss in front of Target. Marisol agreed and appreciated his planning ahead. She later texted him asking his birth time and location, whereas Chris already knew where this was going.&nbsp; Chris was living in the Bronx, at Einstein graduate school housing, and Marisol had a revolving door of roommates in Bedstuy. Their relationship was long-distance, three subway trains, an always-delayed bus, and a check-in past campus security. Marisol met Chris in his final years of his Ph.D, and he met Marisol while she was a few weeks away from a trial. It didn’t matter how busy they both were, because they learned how to prioritize each other.&nbsp; Their lives began to meld together, they hosted a “Tres Reyes” party where their friendship circles met, and they went Instagram official. Marisol told Chris that she loved him in her sleep, she was unconscious and had no memory of it. Later on, Chris met her parents, brother, and nephew in Florida. Their family dog, Sherman, instantly loved Chris and listened to him more than Marisol. When Marisol told Chris that “Sherman te quiere.” Chris said “Yo te quiero tambien.” Her papa told her he felt more relaxed now knowing that she had someone like Chris in her life. Chris taught Marisol how to make pupusas, while she made him aji de gallina. They set up a shared Google calendar, “Ra-Ra-Rasputin,” to orchestrate scheduled chaos in between the monotony of everyday life. Chris held Marisol’s hand at the doctor's after she had her first asthma attack since being a teen. She had gone to see “Past Lives” in theaters despite the spaghetti orange sky burned by the Canadian fires. They became each other’s emergency contacts to ensure neither would be alone.&nbsp;Marisol and Chris went to Burbank, California, and she cried while looking at Chris’ baby photos. His mom took her shopping at Ross, thus initiating Marisol into the family. His parents showed her Chris’ childhood photo riding bumper cars while wearing a LA Dodgers cap,candid moments during various graduations, and stillframes of the favorite children, the dogs, Matador, Bella, and Rocky. Marisol and Chris began thinking of each other as each others’ family.&nbsp; Chris and Marisol traveled to Peru together, and Chris told her that he felt that until then, he had not fully known her. Marisol took Chris to her family’s rooftop in Caja De Agua, and started pointing out the different cerros, including Cerro San Cristobal and thought she had never been so happy. Chris asked Marisol’s parents for their blessing in July 2024. Earlier that day, Chris had accompanied Marisol to her abuelitos’ graves, and told her that she had let them know that he was going to take care of her. Marisol and Chris have since adopted a dog together, Penny Lane, where their lives’ scheduled chaos has become unscheduled. They are so excited to share their wedding day together with their family and friends. Thank you for accompanying us on Day 1 of our marriage.

Our Story

I've broken this down by neighborhood. Centro de Lima: 1. <a href="https://g.co/kgs/Na66Jef" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Plaza de Armas</a>: The Plaza Mayor, also known as the Plaza de Armas, is the main public square of the historic centre of the city of Lima, Peru. It dates back to the foundation of the city by Francisco Pizarro on January 18, 1535. While there, you can see the Presidential Palace, which has a daily changing of the guard ceremony at noon and the Catedral, the main church in Lima. There's a also a giant "LIMA" sign, which is great for photos. 2. <a href="https://g.co/kgs/MTiU7jM" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">La Catedral:</a> the oldest most important church in Lima, is an architectural gem, and UNESCO World Heritage site. You can buy a ticket once there to take a tour of the catedral, which also houses Francisco Pizarro's crypt. 3. <a href="https://g.co/kgs/HpqomwR" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The Catacombs and Convent of San Francisco:</a>The Catacombs of Lima are&nbsp;an extensive network of underground tunnels and ossuaries located beneath the San Francisco Monastery in the historic center of Lima, Peru.&nbsp;They are known for being one of the largest and best-preserved colonial-era cemeteries in the Americas.&nbsp; 4. <a href="https://g.co/kgs/U2vpoay" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Museum: Casa de La Literatura Peruana</a>Originally the "Desamparados" train station, this is one of Marisol's favorite places in Lima, because it showcases Peruvian authors and their contributions to Peruvian literature. It's a lovely museum that has some beautiful murals and a nice back area where you can see the Rio Rimac. 5. Restaurant: <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/Fex7jGgsmvarrX67A" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">"El Cordano"</a>: They say every single modern president in Peru has eaten here. It's one of Lima's oldest restaurants and steps away from the Presidential Palace. They have a variety of traditional Peruvian "criollo" dishes. This is also one of Marisol's favorite places to eat in El Centro. 6. Sangucheria <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/DpcfJ8r1TiegBrSb9" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">"El Chinito"</a>: The sandwiches here changed Chris' life forever. This sandwhich shop has the *best* pan con chicarron, which is fried pork served with fried sweet potatos in a baguette roll. They top it with red onions and lime, along with aji, (spicy redhot sauce made from rocotos). There's multiple locations in El Centro, Barranco and other neighborhoods in Lima. The one located in Plaza de Armas gets crowded, but if you go around the block on Jiron de La Union, you'll see another outpost of El Chinito, but with more seating. I would order an emoliente (hot herbal drink) to accompany it. All of there sandwhiches are highly recommended too. 7. <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/veUdAfW79SsnXw9H6" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Casa O'Higgins</a>: Well restored colonial home on Jiron de la Union , originally owned by Bernardo O'Higgins (Chilean Independence Leader from Spain). It is a now a museum, with rotating exhibits. The last time I was there it had an exhibit on Retablos, so it's always nice to see what new exhibit they have on display. Free. 8. Church: <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/zmoUxEHCCJiGMAEX9" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">La Merced</a>: Located on Jiron de La Union, it was built in 1535 and designed in the Churriguesque, Baroque style. One of Marisol's favorite places because her parents were married there. Free. 9. Artisanal Market at ___ 10. Drink a Pisco Catedral at <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/BLq3fWa3Bf6Trhkm7" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Estadio Futbol Club</a> Estadio is a fun football-themed bar and restaurant. Each table is dedicated to a different country's soccer team. You can find cool futbol memoriablia hanging from the walls and take a picture with life-size figures of Peru's national team. Also the drinks are particularly good, order a Pisco Sour, Catedral, (an extra-large Pisco sour) that the bride's brother Luis, once bought for Chris, which gave him a nice buzz. Order the anticuchos (beef heart skewers). 11. Barrio Chino/ Calle CapónLima's Chinatown has a rich history due to Chinese emigration. There are many "Chifas", Peruvian-Chinese restaurants throughout Lima, but these are a few recommended.---Neighborhood: Barranco 1. Make a Wish at<a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/X6CzxdPM17RnHNZa6" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> El Puente de los Suspiros</a> They say if you walk across El Puente for the first time while holding your breath, your wish will come true. Very sappy but as a teen, Marisol once held her breath and wished she would find true love as she walked across. 2. Catch a Show at <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/FHWEbm4JcdVt3BmX6" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Peña Don Porfirio</a> or <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/mg8nQL3ABsie9QSp9" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Peña Del Carajo</a> or <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/NYqdrg9CijNoviCz8" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Peña La Oficina</a>: Peñas are restaurant bars that play traditional Peruvian criollo music (cajon, guitar, live singing) with live dancing performances. They typically have shows on Fridays/ Saturdays and perform traditional Peruvian dances such as the Afro-Peruvian dances of festejo, el alcatraz, lando, zamacueca and other dances from other regions of Peru, such as marinera, vals. Also, peñas are special because local Peruvians go and also show off their dancing skills too. Generations of musicians and artists have made peñas cultural centers. Marisol has happy memories dancing at Don Porfirio, she recommends their lomo saltado. You should make a reservation ahead of time at any one of these and check their schedules. 3. Visit Jade Rivera's Art Gallery:Jade Rivera is a Peruvian visual artist and muralist born in 1983, known for his emotive work exploring his environment and identity. Nearby you can also see his stunning murals in Barranco. 5. Contemporary Art Museum: <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/j8jrgM7NMazRmxT18" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Museo de Arte Contemporeano-Lima</a>, "MAC" is a smaller museum that focuses on Peruvian and Latin American modern art. 6. Do some Shopping at "<a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/W7MrFmG5nnjHqTEb9" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">La Feria</a>"From Wednesday-Sunday, this is a market that supports local artists and vendors. Marisol has bought everything from her jean jacket with Andean textiles to a cute going-out top there. There's also food stalls and a seating area. Sometimes there are live performances here too, Marisol was once offered a rose from a charismatic mime around Valentine's Day 2023. Neighborhood: Miraflores: 1. <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/M8upiAHYJ2rhGtkYA" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Parque Kennedy</a>Yes, this park is named after JFK. There's a cat colony that lives here, don't worry, there's actually a team of volunteers from an animal rights group that makes sure the cats are taken care of. <a href="https://www.peruforless.com/blog/parque-kennedy" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">This park is a beautiful place to people watch,</a> and there are normally craft stalls and artists painting in the park. You can also see the Church of the Miraculous Virgin here. Also on Sunday's at the Chabuca Grande Ampitheater,<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7fksNfs_r0&amp;ab_channel=ElDominicaldePanamericana" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"> Seniors gather to dance here</a>, all are welcome. 2. <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/xAVSrSuz8fSeURgT8" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">La Lucha Sangucheria</a> Their sandwiches are *chef's kiss.* Try their lomo saltado sandwich. UFF. They have multiple locations in Lima, this one is right by Parque Kennedy. 3. <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/varN6RJ2TPVbEXJB7" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Parque del Amor</a> &amp; El Malecon de Miraflores: Watch the sunset at el Parque del Amor. There is a giant sculptures of people kissing that's part of El Malecon de Miralflores. The Malecon, is 6 miles of scenic parks and boardwalks with views of the Pacific ocean. 4. <a href="https://maps.app.goo.gl/6py3NWZ5Agwg8ZqJ9" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Huaca Pucllana</a> While Peru's most famous ruins are the Incan ruins of Machu Pichu, there are ruins of multiple civilizations all over Peru. In the heart of Miraflores, you can see the adobe pyramid built by the ancient Pre-Incan civilization, the Lima Civilization, from 200 AD to 700 Ad. <a href="https://museos.cultura.pe/museos/museo-de-sitio-pucllana" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Huaca Pucllana</a> served as a religious ceremonial site and adminstrative center. Take a guided tour of the pyramid and see the museum collection. Closed on Tuesdays.
