Ostertag vistas

Picture of Ostertag vistas
We invite you to experience a day in the country with all its charm in close harmony with nature. Ostertag Vistas is nestled in a hidden valley, 15 minutes from Frederick or Hagerstown on Route 70. Inspiring mountain views provide a tranquil refuge from traffic, noise, and pollution. Guests from the greater Washington DC, Virginia, and Maryland regions enjoy the wide, open landscape… Ostertag (meaning Easterday in German), presents a showcase of historic structural renewal. A charming 200 year-old log cabin provides a romantic setting for an outdoor garden wedding. A spacious four-level 18th Century German Swiss bank barn has been reborn with careful renovations. The warmth and loftiness has been preserved in the great room. Careful renovation revives a 19th century German Swiss bank barn, which is the focal point for wedding receptions, business retreats, seminars and other special events. The structural simplicity and natural materials form a dramatic backdrop for wedding receptions. Large glass panels provide fantastic views of the 164-acre farm, with rolling hills, farm pond, and streams and barn doors can be opened to bring the outdoors in. The barn includes a bridal suite, groom’s room, five restrooms, a small museum, and three stone fireplaces. Our rural forefathers cut timber from the land, hewed the logs into beams, assembled by mortise and tenons and held together by wooden pegs. Native stones were used to provide the beautiful stone walls for the foundation. The breezes that once blew chaff from the threshing floor now cools the great room as a huge sliding door opens for cross ventilation. The fifty-foot ceiling provides drama as guests ascend a bold staircase to a skybox for a breathtaking view of the 71-foot long structure. Large glass panels provide fantastic views of the 164-acre farm, with rolling hills, farm pond, and streams. An old 1700’s stone pioneer home is accessible from the farm lane (once used by Civil War troops). This home has been restored and is complete with a naturally powered water wheel. Guests are encouraged to enjoy the lush meadows, streams and pond and watch migrating geese, blue herons and bald eagles pause in their flight to wander in the nearby pond and beaver dams. Deer, fox, wild turkey, and coyote are often spotted in the woods and hillsides. Like a treasure tucked away in northwestern Frederick County, Maryland, Ostertag Vistas is a jewel in paradise!
