Travel Tips

Driving + Navigation

International Drivers License: You can drive and rent a car with your valid U.S. driver's license in France for up to 90 days. Having an International Driving Permit (IDP) is not needed.

Narrow Roads: First and foremost, the streets around the South of France are much more narrow than in the US. We do not suggested getting a large car unless truly necessary to allow you to navigate the smaller roads more comfortably.

GPS and Maps: We suggest downloading Google "offline maps" ahead of your trip to aid in navigation without an internet connection.

Tolls: Be prepared for toll roads ("péages"). Carry a credit card or use Apple Pay for payments. Note: All major toll roads will ask you to collect a ticket upfront and pay the ticket after you exit.

Miscellaneous

Travel Visa: You do not need a travel visa in France if you are traveling less than 90 days in the country.

Tipping: Tipping is not obligatory but appreciated.

Emergency Numbers: The emergency number in France is 112 for police, fire, and medical assistance.

Health Insurance: Check that your health insurance covers international travel or get travel insurance.

Euros: The local currency is the Euro (€). It's helpful to have some cash on hand for small, local purchases.

American Express: Most places, especially local shops/cafes do not accept American Express credit cards. However, Mastercard and Visa are widely accepted.

Contactless Payment: Most places accept contactless payments, so bring a credit card that supports this feature.
