Devin and Cici’s love story began in the most serendipitous way in 2019, when they met during the Camp Akili Fellowship. What started as a warm and genuine friendship soon blossomed into something extraordinary. Over the next two years, they built a beautiful bond rooted in shared passions and the joy of discovering what made each unique. Both talented artists and steadfast believers in liberation, their connection deepened as they celebrated both their similarities and the qualities that made them different.

By 2022, Devin couldn’t hold back his feelings any longer. After a few missed opportunities to align their schedules, their first official date unfolded like something out of a fairy tale on May 9th, 2022, at a stunning castle winery. As they walked through the idyllic grounds, Devin looked at Cici and said, “I wanted to take you to a winery because I want you to feel like the princess you are.” Their love story took flight in that moment, surrounded by breathtaking views and heartfelt words. Two months later, on July 2nd, 2022, they made their relationship official, solidifying what felt like destiny.

The universe, however, had one more test for them. Shortly after, Cici moved to Washington, DC, to begin her work with the NAACP, and they embarked on their first year together navigating long-distance love. While it wasn’t always easy, their devotion only grew stronger. Late-night calls that stretched into the early morning, bi-weekly virtual date nights, and the excitement of planning trips to see one another became the foundation of their relationship. Distance wasn’t a barrier—it was proof of the depth of their commitment.

In 2023, the distance came to an end when Cici moved back to California. Together, they began building a life in San Francisco, filled with creativity, laughter, and love. They performed Devin’s original songs at So Far shows across the city and channeled their shared vision for liberation into Serving Melanin Collective, the nonprofit they started together to empower their community.

As their love flourished, Devin poured his soul into writing music, completing over 20 songs in just a few months. Ever the thoughtful partner, Cici planned a special day to celebrate Devin’s artistry and his birthday. What started as a day of family photos led to a magical evening filled with music, love, and a surprise grand proposal on May 11th. When Devin got down on one knee and asked Cici to marry him, her answer was a joyful and resounding YES.
