Mikey and Cierra met on Bumble in late December 2019. With the holidays always being a busy time, we did not go on our first date until January 4th, 2020. During the talking phase, Mikey said he was from a small town between Napa and Fairfield. When Cierra responded with Green Valley, she felt like he thought she was a stalker. When in reality, she also grew up in Green Valley. Our childhood houses are only three miles away from each other. However, Cierra commuted to Sonoma for school (K - 12th grade), and Mikey went to school in Green Valley (K-8th) and Napa (9th - 12th), so there were no chances of our paths crossing while growing up. On our first date, Mikey shockingly ended up being the shy one. Cierra could not even count how many times he fixed his hair and shirt during the date as she lost count. She even thought he was not interested in her because he kept looking at the TV in the restaurant to watch football. However, the conversation was great. We connected over our love for our families, live music, and good deli sandwiches. 3 things that still to this day, are our favorite things. Even though she thought he was not interested in her after our first date, we ended up going on a few other dates including the Napa Light Festival and the classic dinner and movie date. We also went to our first concert together which was Mikey's favorite band, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. For a girl that only listens to Taylor Swift, this concert was a very different experience for Cierra, but she had a great time. Two weeks after this concert, the world shut down because of COVID and we both wondered what would happen to our relationship. However, we didn't let COVID end our relationship, and ended up being in each others bubble during this weird time.
It's funny looking back at our relationship, and knowing that our first official photo together is inside the Napa Safeway in April 2020 with masks on. We always tell people that we started our relationship backwards, with being locked in an apartment together and not being able to leave the house like old people. With this COVID time, we really got to know each other on a deeper, personal level. It wasn't until June or July 2020 that we started to meet each other's friends and were able to see each other in everyday normal life.
Mikey proposed to Cierra in Yosemite National Park on October 15, 2023. It was right under Yosemite Lower Falls, where it was filmed by a stranger who thought she was just taking a picture of us. Long story short, the day before Mikey proposed, we got a flat tire in Yosemite. Mikey was determined to not let this ruin the trip, so we drove around on the spare tire for 1 day as no tire shop was open. The morning after we got engaged, we finally got our tire fixed 2 hours away from Yosemite (the closest tire shop that had Mikeys car tire). From now on, we will always say that a flat tire before getting engaged is good luck! Funny enough, our best friends got a flat tire the day before they got engaged also, and we didn't know until we told them our story!
4 years later now, we have been able to create the best community around us in Napa, able to travel the world together, and even get a dog together (Baxter is our dog's name and literally the highlight of our life). We chose South Lake Tahoe to get married as that is our place. It was the place where we first went on vacation together in July 2020, the place where we celebrated Cierras birthday for the past 3 years with friends, the place that we have created so many special memories together, and now it will be the place where we marry each other.
