Never Say Never

The funny thing about our love story is we don't actually remember the first time we met, where we were, or any of the details. We didn't have that "love at first sight" moment like some couples. In 2012, my sister started dating Luke McHan, and he and Logan played baseball at Haughton. I honestly can't tell you how many games my sister and I sat through (rain or shine). Logan and I were both dating other people at the time but were still really good friends. Meanwhile, my mom LOVED Logan and would always say, "Claire, you and Logan would be so cute together," and I would always tell her, "Mom, I will NEVER ever date Logan McHan!"

Fast forward two years and I need a date to my senior prom and who better to take than the one and only, Logan Ryan McHan. Honestly, that was it for us. The rest is history. Who would have ever thought that I'd fall in love with the man of my dreams at my senior prom. The fall of 2014, we both attended Louisiana Tech University and were inseparable. At the end of that school year, Logan decided it was best for him to move back home to Shreveport to pursue a career in nursing. After doing "long distance" (we were only an hour apart) for two years, Logan decided it was time to put a ring on it when I decided to move back to Shreveport to pursue a Master's Degree in Communication Disorders. He has been nothing but supportive of my dreams and encourages me to be the best I can be.

I knew I loved him then at 18 years old and I could have never imagined that we would end up where we are today over four years later. I'm so thankful the good Lord blessed me with Logan because he has shown me what it's like to be loved, respected, and cherished every single day. He is the most patient, selfless, kindhearted, and hardworking man I know and I am beyond honored to get to be his wife!

The Proposal (As Told by Logan)

The ring search started in early March 2017 with her dad by my side. I picked up the ring on March 15th, and my mom was kind enough to let me hide it at her house, knowing I would be a ticking time bomb and want to pop the question at any moment. You know, "out of sight out of mind" is a great philosophy to follow. The day I got the ring was the day I set the date to ask Claire - April 1st.

The next step was to ask her dad. If anyone knows Mike Crawford, then they know he's one of the nicest, most personable, and most PROTECTIVE people you will ever meet when it comes to his daughters. I walked in, hands shaking and palms sweaty. "Mr. Mike, can I marry your daughter?" He gave me a speech that was one of the most eye opening, heart warming, and accepting moments in my life and allowed me the honor of marrying his daughter.

The day was finally here! April 1st, 2017 is a day I will never forget. Why choose April Fool's Day you ask? Well if she decided to say no I could joke about it, and say, "APRIL FOOLS!!!" The night was set and both mine and Claire's families were meeting at Betty Virginia Park at 6:00 while Claire and I were sitting down for an early dinner at 2 Johns Steakhouse. After dinner, I blind-folded her (even though I knew she hates being blind-folded). We make it to Betty Virginia Park. Walking up to the park, I see our families waiting in anticipation. We walk up to our spot, I remove the blind fold, I attempt to recite the speech I had once practiced for weeks and NOTHING comes to mind... I speak from the heart and then the water works started happening for both of us. I got down on one knee, all the stress and worry now gone, and the greatest four words rolled off my tongue, "Will you marry me?" And of course, she said YES!!!
