David and I have lived about five minutes away from each other since the time we were born. We both attended the same elementary school and even had the same third grade teacher. Although the only memory we have of each other is me remembering David in a cow costume that he wore to school. Our paths crossed a lot over the years, especially in band and at the lunch table where David sat one person away from me, but to this day he still cannot remember me sitting there. We finally got to know each other at the end of our Junior year, when we took leadership positions in Garden Spot's new FCA. By the beginning of the year we were both making excuses to spend time with each others especially me asking David to drive me around while I had a broken collarbone and "couldn't drive" myself. We were even unintentionally paired together on the homecoming court our senior year. Soon after, we started dating and have been together ever since.
Claire was a Spanish major in college and had always wanted to study abroad in Spain. She finally got the opportunity to go after graduating in December during our senior year of college. Since I already knew I wanted to propose, I knew Spain would be the perfect place when Claire invited me to go and travel with her and her dad, Jim, during her first week there. I didn't know much about Spain or the cities we were visiting, so I left for the trip with no idea where I would actually propose. La Plaza de España in Sevilla turned out to be the perfect place. Unfortunately, after arriving in Sevilla, I started feeling sick to my stomach and spent the majority of our time in the city in the bathroom with food poisoning. After Jim came back from touring the city with Claire, he came into my room and told me that the Plaza would be the perfect place to propose if I could make it there. Claire was thrilled that I was going to leave the hotel to go to the Plaza, because it was her favorite place in the city. Jim was in on my plan, and we both acted like we were just taking normal pictures with the beautiful Plaza in the background. After a few shots, I turned towards Claire and tried to put together some of the things I had planned to say. Finally I pulled the ring out of my pocket and got down on one knee and proposed in my best Spanish accent, ¿Quieres casarte conmigo? and Claire said yes!
