Jayven and Claire met in October of 2021 through marching band at Wayne State College; Jayven plays tuba and Claire is in the color guard during marching season and plays trumpet in the wind ensemble during concert season. The band director at Columbus Lakeview contacted the WSC director of bands about having some Wayne State students come play pep band with her band. At that time, Claire didn't have a car on campus and asked a friend for a ride- it turned out that she was riding with Jayven who had an extra spot in his car. They spent the evening playing pep band and getting to know each other. The next day was NSBA State Marching in Lincoln, the two spent the bus ride back to Wayne chatting. That night, Claire joined Jayven's friend group who was playing board games that night. The two stayed up until 7am talking while everyone else fell asleep.

Their first date consisted of lunch at Panera Bread and going to the Jocelyn Art Museum in Omaha. The two share a love of pasta and art, this became quite apparent during their first date.

Jayven and Claire were in marching band, concert choir, and wind ensemble together throughout college.

The summer of 2022, they worked at Camp Fontanelle together as counselors. This was a major challenge for both of them but helped them grow in their faith and in their relationship.

Traveling is one of the major shared interests of the couple. In December of 2023, the two traveled to Madrid, Spain together for a week with a tour group. They've taken many trips together including dozens of excursions to Norfolk and Sioux City (the nearest sign of life after leaving Wayne), longer road trips to Sioux Falls, Lincoln, and Omaha, and the Black Hills with Jayven's family. Their furthest adventures have taken them to San Diego, California for the wedding of one of Claire's brothers, and to Madrid, Spain.

During the school year, they attend Calvary Bible Church in Wayne together where Claire serves on the praise team and Jayven participates in men's Bible studies.

After their honeymoon in the Black Hills of South Dakota, the two will be moving to Winside, NE where Jayven will commute to Norfolk where he will start his career as a 6th grade science teacher, and Claire will commute to Wayne where she'll finish the last year of her English and theatre education degree.
