We met through our grad program at the University of Houston. Before the semester began, several of us met at a coffee shop. We sat diagonal from each other, and both of us wanted to get to know each other better. Through that meeting, we got to know our interests (including Lord of the Rings and Narnia), our academic interests, and our class schedule. Admittedly, we were both really happy to learn that our first semester classes were all the same.

Once the semester began, we tried to find any excuse to spend extra time together. He offered to drive me to my car after every evening class since we parked in different parking garages. After our Wednesday class every week, we would stand outside on the sidewalks and talk for hours in order to avoid "rush hour traffic." It worked, but we both loved the opportunity to get to know each other better. Our first date was an ice cream date on Jimmy's birthday, and it was so natural. A week later, we became official as boyfriend and girlfriend, and our relationship blossomed from there. We got competitive during bowling and ping pong, we visited museums, we watched Twilight (against Jimmy's will), and we grew closer over books.

We made trips to Waco, where Jimmy met all of my undergrad friends. During a visit in the history department office, while he and one of my former professors tried to accurately date a globe, one of my friends turned to me and said, "He's perfect for you." We watched the UH-Baylor football game, where I made us leave early because Baylor was playing so badly.

A little over a month after we started dating, I celebrated an early Thanksgiving with my family. After I came back, he was driving me to class while we listened to his vibey playlist. "My Love is Mine All Mine" came on, and he began humming it. That was how I knew Jimmy was in love with me, and that evening, after class, we told each other, "I love you" for the first time.

After that, we started getting to know each other's families, going on more vacations, recovering from sickness, and started becoming more serious about marriage. Within a year of dating, we both knew that we were going to get married.

On April 23, 2025, Jimmy took me back to the coffee shop where we first met. Once we were done there, he took us to a beautiful library that we had studied and worked at before, and he got down on one knee to ask me to marry him. It was the easiest "yes" I've ever said. We are both so excited to be able to spend forever together.
