Q + A

What does Black Tie Optional mean?

It means it's a chance for the gentlemen to wear tuxedos and the ladies to wear formal gowns. There aren't enough occasions for glamor these days! But we do recognize that it's not for everyone, so if you prefer, you can bring it down a notch. Jackets are requested of the fellas.

Care to share the dinner menu?

We'd love to! The reception will feature a station-style dinner with four options that we are so excited for you to try. These dishes are low-country favorites and William Aiken House specialties: Shrimp and Grits, Petite Filet, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, and Ricotta Ravioli. All include yummy sides. You'll be able to visit all four stations if you like!

Is this a sit-down dinner? Are there assigned tables?

There are no assigned tables, but you'll find plenty of seating throughout the venue so that you can explore the different stations, grab your cocktails of choice, mingle with friends and family, and enjoy the dance floor.

Do I need to think about comfortable footwear?

A station-style reception among the grounds of the William Aiken House does mean you'll be on your feet more than you would at a sit-down dinner. You'll want to wear shoes that enable you to enjoy a lively, open-air party in historic Charleston!

The Hendrix name appears a lot on your invitation! What's up with that?

Hendrix is Clark's middle name. It is 100% a coincidence! We are not cousins, we didn't make a whopping typo on the invitation, and Clark is not taking the Hendrix name in marriage. Turns out Hendrix is a fairly common name in the south. For example, Clemson has a Hendrix Student Center that is named for no one associated with this wedding, although we get asked about it a lot!
