Cody transferred back to Fayette Academy for his junior year, my senior year. We quickly became best friends. From the outside, we didn't seem to have much in common but there was an invisible string drawing us together. We would seek each other out in the school hallways, hangout after school at games, FaceTimed often, and even comforted each other after inevitable failed relationships, as friends do.

Eventually, our relationship became much more than that but only one of us was ready to accept it. Cody wanted to be more than friends, but I was in denial and worried that it would ruin our friendship if things didn't work out.

I got the wakeup call that I needed when I went off to college and realized I couldn't live without him. Being 5 hours from my best friend was so hard, but it made it very clear to me that he wasn't just my friend. After a conversation where he probably heard "you're right" for the first time, we FINALLY got on the same page. I came home for a weekend and he asked me to be his girlfriend. That was five and a half years ago♡
