It all started when I sat down in my boss’s office one day, lamenting the woes of dating, and told him about my only requirements for a boyfriend: someone tall, funny, and older. My boss replied, “Well, I know someone who fits that description.” He was referring to his son. While I thought he was joking, little did I know he would go on to mention me to his son, Cody.
While Cody and I interacted here and there throughout the years (him coming in to “say hi” to his dad at work, me going over to his parents’ house, or just sending reels back and forth), it wasn’t until I started hanging out with his parents a lot more that I noticed he would stick around and stay up later to talk and play games.
Fast forward to Valentine’s Day, 2025. I was living in his parents’ backyard for a short time—no longer working for Cody’s dad—and after I had a rough day at work, Cody offered to make us drinks while we complained about “Single Awareness Day” (aka Valentine’s Day). The complaining turned into us talking and laughing long into the night about everything.
We went on a rock-climbing date, then an official dinner date, and spent a lot of time watching movies on his parents’ couch. Cody then officially asked me to be his girlfriend on March 1st! From there it was nonstop laughs, good food, and good times.
In July, Cody and I went to Idaho to meet my mom, and he asked for her blessing to marry me.
Then on September 1st, 2025, after months of fooling me into thinking he would propose in mid-October, we went out to the beach to spend time at his grandparents’ beach house with his mom and dad. While “waiting” for his parents to get back, Cody “wandered” off for a bit, and when I went to look for him, I found him on one knee. And of course, I said yes!
Now I get to marry the love of my life—and it’s all thanks to my boss, Jerry!
