Our Wedding

They say that when you know, you just know- and I truly believe that’s exactly what happened with us. From the very first week we met, we were already talking about marriage and imagining a lifetime together. Our journey, however, wasn’t without its challenges. When we first met at the beginning of 2021, I was living in Saginaw navigating college life while Cody was living in Alpena. Just a short time after we met, he learned he would be starting his journey at the Michigan State Police Academy in March, only two months later. From that moment, we knew our relationship would be a true test of love, patience, and dedication. I remember Cody telling me he wouldn’t be able to have his phone during the week for the entire six months of training. For a brand-new relationship, the thought of not being able to talk at all was daunting. Even though it was difficult, I wanted to be his biggest supporter through it all. We learned to cherish the little things- the brief five minute phone calls I’d get if I was lucky, the handwritten letters he would squeeze in whenever he had a spare moment, and the weekends together that always felt far too short. And, of course, every Sunday before he headed back I became his unofficial barber, giving him a fresh buzz cut to get him inspection-ready for the week- a funny little ritual that quickly became part of our story. (Yes, I learned that true love sometimes means falling for the bald version of a man you’d only just met a couple months earlier!) Looking back, those six months laid the foundation of our relationship built on trust, laughter, and unwavering love. It wasn’t always easy, but every mile, every short call, and every crooked haircut was worth it. Through it all, we grew closer and more certain that we had truly found our forever. After the academy, Cody moved to the west side of the state to begin his career while I remained in Saginaw. This presented another challenge as for the next three and a half years, we navigated a long-distance relationship with a 2.5 hour drive between us. But even with the distance, our bond only grew stronger proving that no matter the miles, our hearts were always together. Through all the FaceTime calls, weekend trips, and even midweek visits just to see each other, we made it work. Those years of long distance became a testament to the depth of our partnership. Cody showed unwavering support as I went through graduate school, and I worked to be his rock through his early career milestones. Together, we learned that love isn’t measured by proximity- it’s measured by patience, trust, dedication, and the small everyday acts of showing up for each other, no matter the distance. Looking back on our journey from buzz cuts and handwritten letters to long drives and weekend visits- it’s clear that every challenge only made our love stronger. Every step brought us closer, and every moment proved that we had truly found our forever in each other. Now that we finally live in the same zip code, we are so excited to start this next chapter together- creating a home we love, sharing everyday moments without the miles in between, and making new memories as a team. From the very first week we met to this moment, our journey has been filled with love, laughter, and growth, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to celebrate it surrounded by the people who mean the most to us. Every challenge, every mile, and every little ritual along the way has led us here- ready to say “I do” and continue our story as partners, best friends, and soon-to-be husband and wife. We can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds, and we feel so grateful that we get to face it together.
