Ursinus College has a reputation ... that is the number of alumni married couples. By 2016, there were over 1,000 Ursinus alumni who married! And by June 2025, we will become yet another statistic.
Our story began at Ursinus College, but were merely acquaintances during those years. Ben studied Psychology and was in the Sigma Rho Lambda fraternity, and Colette studied Anthropology and was in the Phi Alpha Psi sorority. We knew each other from college events, parties, and walking around campus. Everyone knew everyone.
About 7 years later during the holiday season, Colette was living in Atlanta, GA and Ben was residing in Denver, CO. On a late night around Christmas time, Ben, with the help of some liquid courage, randomly messaged Colette on Facebook. It was just a general "Hey" kind of message, but Colette responded and the conversation took off. The next morning, Ben woke up to a message with Colette's phone number and everything else took off from there.
COVID hit in early 2020, but we were still messaging each other and getting reacquainted. Eventually, once the travel bans due to COVID were lifted in the summer, we decided to plan a trip to see each other. Colette flew out to Denver to see Ben for the first time in years. There was such a mixture of excitement and nervousness! We explored Denver for a few days and got to really know each other. Later that summer, Ben visited Colette at her parents house in New Jersey where he met her Sicilian side of the family. Ben survived ... major green flag! Another trip was planned for Ben to visit Colette in Atlanta. After the trip to Atlanta, we knew we needed to see each other more.
Eventually, we both moved back to the northeast. Colette moved back up to New Jersey and Ben moved to Boston shortly after. We took this opportunity to see each other as much as possible, even every month or so if we could. The drive from New Jersey to Boston was a long one, but we made it work the best we could. After a bunch of back and forth of seeing each other, we finally committed to moving in together. We were already an amazing team and had little fear of the change. We settled on moving to Cherry Hill, NJ after months of searching for the perfect place.
We learned we both love to travel so we planned trips to places like Gettysburg and Orlando at the start, but soon extended our trips to places like Nova Scotia. Gettysburg was our first long weekend trip together so it held a special place in our hearts, not to mention we both find history fascinating. We planned a second trip back to Gettysburg a couple years later where we explored the town and lands. On the night of the engagement, we went to an amazing romantic dinner and walked around town for a little. Once we got back to our wondrous hotel, we reminisced about our night and it was at that moment when Ben got down on one knee and presented Colette with the ring she fell in love with many months before. After asking THE question, Colette immediately said yes. Words like joy, excitement, and happiness don't describe the emotions that filled the room that night. It was so much more than that because we are each other's soulmate and best friend. We are a team with much love.
