Our Wedding

Instead of writing their own “How We Met” story, Colleen and Jake turned it over to their sisters to hopefully get the full, unbiased, yet succinct, true story. Good idea or bad, we’ll let you decide... “We swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth....as we believe it happened, heard it second hand and/or experienced it” - Eileen, Carly &amp; Laura It was December 2018 - Jake had just started a new job, moved into a new apartment, and decided it was time to take on the dating world by storm (aka, download Hinge). Quickly Jake came upon Colleen’s profile and liked her answer to her favorite thing to do...driving around with the windows down singing along to country music.... After some initial back and forth, Jake asked Colleen out that week, even offering to leave his work holiday party at his new job. Colleen didn’t want him to leave early so she overlooked her “no first dates on weekends” rule and they settled for Friday night.&nbsp;They headed to Hank’s Oyster Bar in DC - apparently their conversation did not include the fact that neither of them have had oysters before and while Jake loves most seafood, Colleen on the other hand does not...except for crab: Maryland style, crab legs, or in this case - 2 orders of crab cakes for the table. After such a great time at dinner, Colleen suggested they get another drink at a beer garden and check out the live music. While there, Jake unfortunately was splattered a bit by someone else’s vomit (cute, right?). Another group nearby, who had witnessed this incident, felt bad and ordered Jake a shot of fireball - a tradition they keep to this day (the shot...not the puking). With the holidays fast approaching, they squeezed in as many dates as they could before the Cooper family left for their cross country road trip to Dallas to watch Notre Dame and Clemson play in the Cotton Bowl and Jake headed home to Maryland to spend the holidays with his family. And that’s when their sisters started to catch on... [Eileen] I knew Colleen had been on a few dates with “Jake” when I saw his name pop up on her phone during our cross country road trip. Once she finally told us she and Jake were officially dating, I knew I had to meet him the first chance I could. I booked a trip to DC just a few weeks later and after a day out in the city and some spontaneous Uber karaoke, I knew these two were perfect for each other. It was only amplified when I saw them dancing to Backstreet Boys “I Want It That Way” at a 90’s bar because I knew he could hold his own at a Cooper/Doran wedding. [Carly] I first knew something was going on when Jake and I were both home for the holidays and I kept catching him looking down at his phone and smiling. I saw that he was texting Colleen and got the call a few weeks later that they were officially dating! I immediately bonded with Colleen over our love of wine, country music, and...the Bachelor (don’t judge). I knew her and Jake were perfect for each other when at family game night (which can get pretty intense), Colleen matched Jake’s competitiveness and ended up beating the whole family in trivia, spoons, 5 second rule, and even Jake’s best game, Scattergories. [Laura] After hearing about Jake for months, I knew I had to see what all the hype was for myself. I booked a last minute 4th of July trip to visit some college friends in DC - the perfect opportunity to subtly sneak an intro. We planned to all meet up for dinner, but it turned out that by the time Jake joined us, we were already a few drinks in. Jake handled the situation like a champ - officially getting my stamp of approval when I found out we had a mutual close friend from college, that his dog’s name is Cooper, and the fact that he had a pet hamster growing up named Tickles (though we don’t judge - ours was named Squiggles). We decided to head to another bar afterwards and on the way over, Colleen and Jake were swapping IMDB knowledge (they both have the app) - and then and there, I knew this was the real deal. Needless to say, for this indecisive couple, this seems to have been the easiest decision they’ve ever made, and there was never a doubt in our minds that we’d be here today. From their ability (read: inability) to cook, to their love of country music, random trivia knowledge, competitive spirits, a shared appreciation of IMDB, and so much more, these two are clearly a match made in heaven… we mean Hinge.

45 miles south of the Island just over the state border in Savannah, GA - more flight options available from SAV and just a short drive to Hilton Head

Approximately 5 miles from all Hilton Head Island resorts. Flight options are somewhat limited but they are continuously expanding flight paths to HHH - would recommend if you're able to find a flight here for a decent price.

Our initial hotel block at The Westin booked up and we were able to add additional rooms but they will be at an increased price of $399/night due to high demand at the resort. There are still rooms available at the Courtyard by Marriott and we will be providing transportation from there as well. Transportation will be provided for guests at The Westin to and from the reception at Colleton River’s Nicklaus Clubhouse. Pick-up will be outside the front lobby at 4:45pm. Transportation will be provided for guests at Courtyard by Marriott to and from the reception at Colleton River’s Nicklaus Clubhouse. Pick-up will be outside the front lobby at&nbsp;4:45pm. The shuttle will be returning guests at 10:30pm Located on the south end of the Island, this hotel is just minutes away from Coligny Plaza &amp; Beach! Courtyard by Marriott Hilton Head Island

There are lots of vacation homes for rent on Hilton Head Island, and since most fill up quickly I would recommend booking as soon as possible! You can find homes via <a href="https://www.airbnb.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Airbnb</a>, <a href="https://www.vrbo.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">VRBO</a> or other local rental companies such as <a href="https://www.vacasa.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Vacasa</a> or <a href="https://www.coastalhomeandvilla.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Coastal Home and Villa</a>. Please be aware that standard booking dates on the island are from Saturday - Saturday, but you should be able to find more flexibility with dates for Airbnb and VRBO rentals. Hilton Head Island is only 12 miles long and 5 miles wide, so you can't go wrong on location! While the ceremony is located on the North End (by the hospital) and the reception will be right over the bridge off-island, I would recommend house rentals on the South End by Sea Pines and North Forest Beach Road/Coligny Plaza or Palmetto Dunes and the surrounding beaches. I'd be happy to help with any questions you might have in regards to location so feel free to reach out!

Transportation will be provided for guests at both hotel options to and from the reception at Colleton River's Nicklaus Clubhouse. Shuttles will be picking guests up at 4:45pm from both the Westin and the Marriott Courtyard and will be returning at 10:30pm. There will be plenty of parking available at Colleton River Club for those who wish to drive. Guest passes will be available at the guard gate. Transportation will not be provided to and from the ceremony at St. Francis Catholic Church and please note that there will be a gap between the ceremony and the reception.

Guest Transportation

While Ubers and Lyfts are available on the island, they are few and far between. I would not recommend relying on them if you are in a hurry as you may have to wait on a car to become available.

Enjoy the day in Harbour Town, located in Sea Pines, and wander around the shops, marina, and restaurants! Climbing the historic Hilton Head Lighthouse is a go to activity as well, giving you amazing views at the top. You can even hop over to the famous 18th green where we got engaged! You will need a pass to get into Sea Pines, so just let us know if you need us to call one in :)

Harbour Town

South Beach Marina is located in Sea Pines as well, and is home to The Salty Dog Cafe where the famous t-shirts are made. South Beach also offers great restaurants, delicious ice cream shops, and waterfront views. Be sure to check out the Salty Dog Happy Hour Cruise around the Calibogue Sound! Located on the south end of the island, Coligny has tons to offer with the beach, shops, and restaurants all within walking distance! We highly recommend picking up a sub from Stu’s Surfside Subs and a frozen drink from The Frosty Frog to bring to the beach with you!

One of the best ways to see the Island is to hop on a bike and explore the 60 miles of trails connecting you to everywhere you want to go, including the beautiful beaches!

If you're looking to explore off-island, be sure to check out Old Town Bluffton! Situated along a natural bluff overlooking the May River, Old Town Bluffton features historic homes converted into boutiques, antique shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants - such as the Old Town Dispensary.

Overlooking Broad Creek, Shelter Cove Towne Centre features plenty of shopping, restaurants and entertainment space. Be sure to walk around and grab a bite at Poseidon's Rooftop Bar and then treat yourself to some Kilwin's Ice Cream!

Take a 45 minute ferry boat trip over to Daufuskie Island, where you can play golf, enjoy multiple restaurants or tour the beautiful island! The only mode of transportation on the Island is via golf cart so be sure to have some fun :)
