Our Wedding

The story of Corey and Natalie begins much like anyone else's...the manga section of Barnes &amp; Noble. The two wandering souls immediately lit the kindling of their relationship bonding over a mutual childhood spent looking at books, taking refuge inside their multitudes. But that wasn't all. They kept meeting and realized it wasn't just comics and all things Japan, but music, movies, and (most importantly) food on a deeper level. They weren't talking about movies they liked, they were talking about plot devices. They weren't talking about a new food place, they were talking about what flavors they want to experience. They found the deeper meanings of joy within each other, both finding someone they could express with together. After 2 years of obscure/hidden tiki bars and speakeasies, art house cinema (The Frida), and more concerts than either of them thought possible, they embarked on a trip to Japan. It was here where Corey's plan came to fruition. "You see, I've been planning this for a year", he whispers, "I had an idea to have Natalie plan Tokyo for us, while I planned Hokkaido. I've been talking with a garden the whole time to get us in before it opens!" And things worked out just the way he planned. After a 14 hour flight and a 16 hour train ride...they were there. A British garden nestled deep within the rolling hills of Asahikawa. Corey barely had time to get up to the gate before Natalie started to pick up on his plan. "I think they're closed", she said, pointing at the sign."Not for us", he said with a smirk. The owner and third-generation caretaker then greeted them and gave them a tour of her gnome garden, jewel of the estate. Armed with a tripod and a beautiful morning, the couple went off to capture memory after memory. Finally, at the center of the garden, Corey placed his camera down to record. This was where it would be. And so he came down on one knee for the love of his life to ask her for her hand. I'll leave it to your imagination, o reader, on what happened next.

Air Travel

For all of our family and friends who are taking to the skies: DO NOT FLY INTO LAX. FLY INTO SAN. LAX is about 3 hours from San Diego. San Diego International Airport (SAN) is right in the heart of SD and will offer easy access for rideshare or car rentals.

The Beau Hotel is conveniently located upstairs from the bar/reception venue! It is also in the heart of the Gaslamp and has recently been updated. Currently there is no elevator. They are working on one right now but there's no guarantee that it will be in working order by the time of our special day. Any guests that need elevator access should stay at the Margaritaville or other options in the area. *Note: Check booking websites such as Priceline or google to confirm you're getting the cheapest price. We've found that Priceline can be cheaper than booking a room using code RING.

The Margaritaville is a short (~10 minute) walk from The Brick &amp; Bower, our reception venue. The Margaritaville is VERY new, being open for less than 3 years by the time of our wedding. Guests should consider this option if they need more space in lieu of some convenience, or if they need elevator access.

Other Options

There are many other hotels in the immediate area. If a different accommodation would work better, you have many choices! The reception will be at The Beau, however, so something close by would be ideal.

For more budget-friendly options, hotel circle has many great accommodations as well. It is also closer to the church where we are getting married (The Immaculata) with convenient freeway access.
