Our Wedding

CORY'S PERSPECTIVE It was a humid Orlando afternoon on March 1st, 2020. I was up to my elbows in chaos. Boxes were still strewn across my new apartment and I was in the second bedroom, turning it into a makeshift photo studio. Backdrops half-mounted, lights and chargers plugged into every outlet... Why do I always choose such involved hobbies? Just then, my phone buzzed. A text from Westley lit up the screen:"Hey Cory! I’m shooting with a couple of models on the 14th and need a second shooter. Night shoot, somewhere with lights. Interested?" Why not? The news kept yammering about some virus, but I shrugged it off. The media’s always exaggerating, right? I had a couple of sessions booked that morning anyway, so my gear would already be out. I fired off a quick “I’m in” and went back to wrestling a backdrop that refused to stay put. March 14th rolled around, and I was already on the struggle bus. My first photoshoot was a mess — focus was off, depth of field all wrong... Of course I realize right before the shoot that during the move my lens mount had bent, making focusing a nightmare. Perfect timing. Another buzz from my friend:"We’re gonna shoot in Old Town—lots of carnival lights, an arcade, and a car show!" The news was warning everyone to avoid crowds. Rain was in the forecast. Old Town was over an hour away. My camera was barely functioning, and I was dead tired. I typed out a text saying I couldn’t make it. Then deleted it. Screw it. I packed my bag, charged the batteries, and hit the road. When I got to Old Town, I spotted my friend and his wife hauling gear, flanked by two models. The air smelled like popcorn and rain, and the neon lights from the rides flickered against the gathering clouds. Despite everything, we had a blast. We shot by vintage cars, snapped photos under the dizzying glow of the merry-go-round, and even did some whimsical cotton candy shots. We wrapped up the night at a laundromat—a quirky choice that somehow worked perfectly. The owner waved us in, thrilled to see someone actually excited about their space. The pièce de résistance? One of the models, Kayla, climbing into a front-load washer, laughing as we all egged her on. Afterward, we grabbed drinks, swapped stories, and called it a night. On the drive home, I sent sample shots to the models. Kayla responded almost immediately, loving the photos. Over the next few days, our messages evolved from photography talk to interests, hobbies, life stories... By March 20th, the world came screeching to a halt. COVID-19 shut everything down. No more photo sessions. No leaving the apartment. It should’ve felt isolating, but somehow, Kayla and I started texting even more. We talked late into the night about how crazy the pandemic was, about our drastically altered routines, and about whether the world would ever go back to normal. We traded stories about her standard poodle, Zeke, and my Siberian husky, Niko. “Why not meet up for a dog walk?” she suggested one evening. Baldwin Park Lake was open, and both of us were craving fresh air. When we met, Niko and Zeke greeted each other with a mix of barks and sniffing—a canine version of a rocky start. But Kayla and I? We hit it off immediately. What started as a one-off walk became a regular thing. We talked for hours, laughing, venting, and getting to know each other. One day, while hiking a nearby trail, we broke the unspoken “six feet apart” rule and held hands. By the end of the walk, as we stood by our cars, Kayla leaned in and kissed me first. From then on, things moved fast in the best way. When quarantines lifted, we didn’t go back to “normal”—we created a new one. Eventually, we moved to Nashville together, bought a house, and started building a life. Oh, and Niko and Zeke? They’re inseparable now, proving even fur siblings can grow into the best of friends. Looking back, that broken lens mount and a risky night in Old Town led me to the love of my life. Funny how things work out, isn’t it?

For those travelling from afar, we recommend flying in to the McGhee Tyson Airport in Knoxville, Tennessee! It is about an hour drive to the Venue from there.

Gatlinburg SkyPark

The concept of having goats on a roof dates back to the 1970s, when Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant in Door County, Wisconsin was known for its roof-munching inhabitants. Here at Goats on the Roof in Pigeon Forge, we’ve stayed faithful to those original alpine roots by building a mountain coaster that’s become one of our most popular attractions – after the goats, of course. Measuring nearly a mile in length and reaching top speeds of nearly 30 miles per hour, The Coaster at Goats on the Roof offers thrills for all ages, and because you the passenger are in control of the brake, you can make the experience as tame or as hair-raising as you’re comfortable with. Each sled is designed to carry one or two passengers, and once your sled is transported to the top of the mountain, gravity takes over for the winding, twisting 4,875-foot journey to the bottom. Along the way, you’ll enjoy gorgeous mountain views and one of the smoothest but wildest seven-minute rides in town.

Tux vs. Suit: What's the Difference?

We invite our guests to dress in formal attire for our wedding day. Gentlemen, think suit and tie rather than tuxedo, with ties optional. Ladies, a floor-length gown or an elegant cocktail dress will fit the vibe perfectly. Our wedding colors are olive green and cream, but guests are welcome to wear any colors they love!Since we’ll be celebrating in the mountains in April, the weather may be cool, with temperatures typically ranging from 68°F during the day to 46°F in the evening, so we recommend bringing a jacket or layering accordingly. Most importantly, wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident as we celebrate together!
