Q + A

How do I get to Vieques?

To reach Vieques from Puerto Rico, you can either fly or take a ferry. We strongly recommend that you consider booking flights to/from Vieques from one of San Juan’s two airports. If traveling alone, flying is by far the most reliable option and surprisingly cost-effective versus the ferry once you take transportation costs from San Juan to/from the ferry terminal in Ceiba into account. FLYING: There are two airports in San Juan. One is the international airport (Airport Code SJU) and it is most convenient if you are flying in or out of that airport on the same day that you are flying to or from Vieques. Flights typically cost around $120/person one-way from SJU to Vieques Airport (Airport Code VQS) but can vary widely based on demand. The other airport is Isla Grande Airport (Airport Code SIG), located near Old San Juan, which is more affordable and most convenient if you are planning to stay in San Juan either before or after Vieques or if you have an hour+/- to take a short ~$20 cab ride from SJU Airport to Isla Grande Airport. The cost to fly from Isla Grande Airport to Vieques is ALWAYS a fixed price of $85/person each way – meaning the short transfer to Isla Grande Airport could save you lots on airfare. Flights are also available from Ceiba Airport (on the east coast of Puerto Rico) to Vieques for a fixed price of $40/person each way. Note that to book these flights, you must call/visit the airline websites below and book directly with the airline for the best availability. Many flights to Vieques do not show up on outside booking sites like Kayak, Expedia, etc. Vieques Airlink: 787-741-8331 www.viequesairlink.com flies out of both San Juan airports plus Ceiba Airport Cape Air: 1-800-352-0714 www.capeair.com flies only out of SJU International FERRY: To access the ferry, you must take a taxi, shuttle, or Uber to the Ceiba ferry terminal. This is about 30-45 minutes from San Juan, so please ensure you've planned accordingly. Ferry rates are $2 per adult and $1 for seniors and children each way. Luggage and other items are additional, so please review the Puerto Rico Ferry site for more information on this. https://www.puertoricoferry.com/ You should plan to reserve your ferry ticket in advance, as it can get booked in advance.

Where should I stay?

Vieques is not a huge island, so anywhere you stay will be relatively close to everything you want to do. There are miles of unspoiled and undeveloped beaches all over the island, so plan to explore!

Do I need a car?

Yes. While it's not a huge island, it is not walkable. You will want to reserve a car or golf cart prior to your arrival. Taxis are unreliable and there is no public transportation. We recommend renting a car if you have any back problems, as the roads can be unpaved in certain areas. If you're adventurous and don't have any physical ailments, try getting a golf cart for a great time!

What should I wear to the wedding ceremony?

We would like our guests to wear white. The ceremony and reception will be outdoors, so please dress comfortably. The ceremony is on the private beach at our villa and the reception will follow directly after around the pool. This means you should bring a bathing suit, as you may want to swim after a few drinks :-).

Do I have to attend everything?

No! The beauty of a destination wedding is that you may participate in anything you'd like.
