After David finished grad school in Memphis at UT he took a job at a hospital in Memphis. Little did he know that Courtney was on her way to Memphis to start her grad school journey herself. Courtney had just finished her third year teaching in Asia and was looking to further her education.
Both had started a new season in their lives in June and a month later met in July. Courtney and David each swiped on each other on Bumble (after taking Ellen's advice to Courtney to download Bumble) and Courtney sent the opening line "What kind of outdoor things do you like to do?" to David. David instantly fell in love (as if!) and quickly after he set up a date for them to meet in person.
Since Courtney didn't have a car yet since she had just moved back to America, she asked David to pick her up and instantly shared her location with her friends, incase David wasn't as cool as his online profile. David arrived promptly and picked up Courtney in White Lightening his beloved Chevy Tracker. He then took her to a sushi dinner and then the Levitt Shell, a Memphis staple, for an outdoor concert. David and Courtney had a great time and David even drove Courtney to a nearby Sonic after to get drinks since Courtney couldn't get her blood sugar down.
They decided they both liked each other enough after the first date to keep things going and continued to date until they became official boyfriend and girlfriend a couple months later. After 2 years of dinners at David's, hikes in Cookeville, trips to visit family, meals at Slider Inn and Central BBQ, David popped the question while visiting friends Ben and Megan in Virginia Beach.
It was the first night David and Courtney were in Virginia Beach and Ben and Megan helped David's vision come to life. He had planned for either the first or second night to ask Courtney to marry him and David just couldn't wait one more day, he had to ask her. They started the evening at a restaurant in Virginia Beach called The Porch and then made sure they were back to the condo right before sunset. David ran inside to grab the ring and they all grabbed a chair to watch the sunset on the Chesapeake Bay. it was a beautiful evening and Ben and Megan insisted that the couple get pictures. One picture in and David went down on one knee! It was a sweet moment documented by both Ben and Megan and Courtney was all smiles.
Courtney and David will be celebrating their wedding in Memphis with immediate family and close friends. As much as they would love to have more people celebrate with them in Memphis they have opted to have a small intimate wedding and a larger reception to follow in Cookeville, Tn and one in Oklahoma later in the new year.
