It was a beautiful, sunny Saturday afternoon. The date was March 16, 2024, when Carlos suggested we go fishing at Shore Haven. I thought it was a bit odd since we had never gone fishing before, but he had been playing with the fishing rods he bought back in December, so I figured he was just excited to try them out.
We had just come back from a wonderful Spring Break vacation in Chicago, and this Saturday was my last day off before I had to return to work. Spending a relaxing afternoon sounded great to me, although Carlos claims I was confused and was being "weird".
When we arrived at Shore Haven, we headed down to the shore. Carlos was hyper focused setting up the fishing rods. I had no idea what he was planning.
I thought he was preparing the bait on the line. Then he told me to grab the fishing rod he was holding, and I noticed he seemed a bit nervous. I thought it was just excitement.
When he looked up at me on bended knee and popped the question "Will you marry me?"
I was so surprised that I just stood there, speechless. Carlos, seeing my stunned expression, and had to ask again, "Will you marry me?"
This time, the words sank in, and as you can imagine I got a little emotional, threw my arms around him and said "Yes!"
The engagement ring, sparkling on the fishing line, was the perfect symbol of our beautiful journey together.
