Our Wedding

It all began on May 25, 2019, at a birthday party hosted by my cousin, Noel for his now Husband Skippy. Although Noel and Shem had been friends for years, we’d somehow never crossed paths—until that day. According to Shem, he noticed me the moment I drove past in my car, and was eager to introduce himself when he realized I was walking up to the same party. I’ll admit, my first impression was a bit skeptical: he was carrying this odd backpack that gave me serious ninja turtle vibes! (Turns out, he’d ridden his motorcycle to the party and its part of his gear, which makes sense now, but it definitely threw me off at first.) My curiosity piqued when the song Suavemente came on, and Shem was the first one to get up and dance. His charisma and energy were infectious, so as the night went on we struck up a conversation. From that day forward, we spent countless hours talking and hanging out. He officially asked me to be his girlfriend on October 14, 2019, and we’ve been side by side ever since. Fast forward four years and he finally proposed to me on April 20th 2024 while at a Tulip farm in Washington while visiting my cousins. Over these five years, we’ve weathered a lot together: a pandemic, new career adventures, moving in together, figuring out “adulting,” and even adding our sweet pup, Mika into the mix. It’s been a whirlwind, but we’re so excited for what’s next. Somehow, we still never run out of things to talk about and can chat for hours, just like when we first met. If you know us, you know we couldn’t be more opposite in so many ways, but that’s exactly why we work so well together. We complement each other in the best possible way, and we can’t wait to continue this journey with all of you by our side.

Wedding Party

1.) The wedding lasso tradition is a unity ceremony performed after the exchange of vows using a lasso or rope to join the couple. It is placed over the couples shoulders by either the officiant or los padrinos (godparents) and symbolizes their everlasting union and status as one in the eyes of the Lord. 2.) La Vibora de la Mar (The Sea Snake Dance) is a traditional Mexican wedding dance and game that symbolizes the strength of a newly married couple and their ability to overcome challenges together. The dance involves the following steps: - The bride and groom stand on opposite chairs and create an arch with a veil or cloth - Guests form a line and hold hands to create a snake - The snake weaves under and over the arch, dancing to the music -The snake speeds up as the music gets faster, making it more difficult for the guests to keep the formation The dance is a metaphor for marriage, with the snake representing the obstacles the couple will face and the guests representing the family and friends who will support them. 3.) The dollar dance is a Mexican wedding tradition where guests pin money to the bride and grooms clothing in exchange for a dance. Guests give money to the couple as a gift and to wish them good fortune.

Mexican Wedding Traditions

1). Oczepiny (Unveiling Ceremony) Traditionally, this happens at midnight and involves the bride tossing her veil. The groom’s tie is also tossed to single men. 2). Chleb i Sól (Bread and Salt Ceremony ) Parents or elders present the couple with bread and salt, symbolizing wishes for a prosperous and resilient marriage. The couple takes a bite of bread (representing prosperity) and a taste of salt (symbolizing life’s challenges).
