We first met in 2021 during freshman orientation at Covenant College. Since it’s a small school and we were both studying finance, we had known of each other for a while. But it wasn’t until our junior year that Ian really showed interest.

For a few weeks, he carefully timed his walk from Principles of Finance to chapel just so he could run into me. Eventually, he asked me out, and we had our first date on September 9, 2023. After a few more dates, we officially started dating about a month later.

We were excited, but also unsure of what the coming months would bring. I was preparing to study abroad in Quito, Ecuador for the spring semester, and we knew we’d be spending the summer apart as well. I would be in Minnesota, and Ian would be in Alaska.

That spring felt slow while we were apart, but we talked almost every day. Those conversations helped us truly get to know each other and deepened our friendship in such a meaningful way.

The photo below is one of my favorites! It was taken at Covenant’s 2024 graduation, just a day after I returned to the States. Ian had picked me up from the Nashville Airport the day before, and we got to spend a few sweet days together before summer began. You can really see how happy we both were!

After months of getting to know each other over long distance and finally being together again in Chattanooga, we both felt confident and excited for what senior year would bring!
