Our Story

Cynthia's version: OK, we met on Tinder. I know, but it's not what you think. Many of you know that I had thrown in the towel with online dating and I became convinced that I'd never find the "match!" And then I had a bored moment and started scrolling on Tinder again. And there he was...and those eyes! I was very intrigued and gave it one more try. We began texting (funny guy!) we talked on the phone (witty, smart, loved his voice, and funny) and then we made plans to meet. Our "meeting" turned into a 3 hour date. Dave was adorable, charming and yes, he looked just like his pictures!! We learned very quickly that we had so much in common: we both grew up in So. Cal., we're both Mexican (me more than him!) we love poker, cigars and motorcycles, and we kept on laughing.

Things were off to a great start! The first friend that I met was Mikey and we all went to a Josh Ritter concert (some how we survived Mikey's driving!) And then I met Reenee, Dave's best friend and fellow Social Worker. She may never know the amount of confidence she gave me that night as I found myself falling for Dave. I asked her, "Is this guy as precious as he appears?" And she said, "Yes, he is absolutely precious and I love him." And this is where I freaked out a little. It was true. It wouldn't be long before I knew for myself that everything Reenee said was true and I started falling in love.

I remember the actual moment when I realized I had fallen in love with Dave. We were cooking -which we love to do together-and he tried to impress me by surprising me with gluten free brownies. He made it clear that he thought they were rubbish, but he was willing to sacrifice himself and share a gf dessert with me. He grabbed the box proudly out of the pantry to surprise me with my gf gift with that cocky look on his face (you all know the one!) This moment is burned in my memory. I looked at him and I knew, "Oh my god, I'm so in love with him."

I have fallen in love over and over again with Dave as we have done life together over the last 6 years. It's been wonderful, challenging, loving, real, and I can't wait to become Cyn Gweezy.

Dave's Version:

It’s true, we met on Tinder. I was told by one of my good friends that once you reach a certain age (that I was well past), that Tinder is a legitimate online dating app. Not sure if that’s true or if he was just telling himself that to justify being on Tinder.

In any case, I was swiping and found her sweet smile and what struck me was that Cynthia looked happy in all of her pictures and they weren’t poses. We matched, we talked on the phone and the first thing I noticed when we spoke was her accent. I immediately knew that she was from So Cal! I don’t think I’ve ever told her this but it’s the way she says “thing”. She says “theeng” 😊. I was smitten for sure. Yes she was cute as a button, but she was also so genuine, and funny!

We arranged to meet in person and I’ll never forget the moment that I totally fell for her. We were talking and she told me how she would send her lackluster suitors down the road with a rejection text and I asked her if I was going to get one of her famous “thanks but no thanks text messages” and she gently touched my face and said “My God, no! You’re precious”. That sweet touch!

I’m reminded over and over how much I love her and how lucky I am to share life with Cynthia and probably my favorite time I had with Cynthia was going to Europe together. I had wanted to go since I was a kid and I don’t think that it was lost on her how special it was and how she made it special for me by the way she scheduled our time together and how much we did each day. She made sure to allow me ample time to have a cigar each day and we were inseparable!

I can’t wait to share our special day with her and with all of you!
