On February 10th, 2021, Dakota and Josh matched on Tinder. After only three days, Josh created a playlist called "Dakota's Game Changer" which consisted of 15 hours and 58 minutes of hand picked Texas country love songs. For the next five months, they spent their evenings on FaceTime, playing trivia games and solving online murder mysteries. As they were unable to meet in person, due to the US/Canada border covid closure.
Finally, on July 14th, 2021, the US/Canada border reopened for air travel. While Dakota and Josh only lived 134 miles door to door. Dakota drove to Regina (144 miles), flew to Vancouver (833 miles), to Denver (1105 miles), to Billings (454 miles) while Josh drove from Plentywood to Billings (353 miles) to pick her up. Their first date lasted an entire week, during which they visited Medora to watch the musical, enjoy the pitchfork fondue, and explore the national park.
Dakota made this trip three times before the American land border opened in November 2021. However, it wasn't until October 2022 that the Canadian land border opened for Josh to visit Dakota's world.
Over the last three years, Dakota and Josh have shared countless meaningful experiences. From travelling the western hemisphere, conquering their first half marathon together, indulging in crime TV shows while eating a Canadian meets TexMex cuisine - and most importantly, supporting Josh's career transition and Dakota's relocation to the United States. Through it all, their bond has only grown stronger, and they continue to discover new ways to fall in love with each other every day.
