A year and a half went by and one random day I saw my phone light up and Dalton's name pop up on my screen. It took me by surprise. Even more of a surprise to see a voice memo of him telling me about something crazy that had happened to him.

I remember thinking “what on earth made him want to tell me?!?” I replied but we didn’t keep the conversation going.

Not too long after that random message from Dalton, the boy that I was dating and I had called it quits.

A few more months went by and I had texted Dalton and asked if he had any other funny stories he wanted to share and that I needed a good laugh. We began texting back and forth that evening. We ended up talking on the phone for 3.5 hours.

I left that conversation thinking it was good to catch up, but it didn’t give me any plans or ideas of us actually reconnecting.

He would send me random text messages here and there for the next month or so. Until one day we were texting while he was cooking dinner. I could tell he had gone wrong somewhere while "following" his recipe so I called him to give him some helpful tips. In that conversation I realized we were both single... oddly enough no light bulbs were going off in my mind about a future between us.

After that conversation we began spending most of our days sending voice memos back and forth.

Looking back Dalton was being very obvious that he was interested in me and wanted to date, but in the moment I didn’t pick up on any of the hints.

We finally made plans for him to come visit Nashville for a weekend. Two weeks before he came up he called me and said he wanted to be clear on his intentions of coming up were not to be friends and that he wanted to take me on a date.
