In the fall of 2021, Dami and Obinna crossed paths at the American Society of Anesthesiologists conference.

Dami, a second-year medical student at the time, found herself at a crossroads, contemplating various specialties, including anesthesia. Just seven days before the event, she impulsively purchased flight tickets to San Diego, where the conference was held.

Obinna, a fourth-year medical student, had already committed to applying to anesthesia residency programs. With a nudge from his mother and a last-minute decision, he too found himself en route to San Diego.

Their meeting occurred at the close of the first day of the conference. A weary and jet-lagged Dami found herself surrounded by a group of fellow black students, among whom was Obinna. Seizing the opportunity to strike up a conversation, Obinna settled down next to Dami, initiating what would become a memorable encounter. Despite the disappointment of lackluster pizza during a late-night grab, Obinna boldly requested Dami's number, igniting the spark that would define their journey together. And as they say, the rest was history...
