I've never been to a mosque before, what should I wear/expect?
Men and women should both dress modestly, in looser-fitting clothing that covers the arms and legs—no shorts or sleeveless shirts for either gender. Head scarves or shawls are optional for women (while it is not required, it is a sign of respect to wear one).
For those attending the ceremony, you will be required to remove your shoes before entering the prayer halls. Men will enter the main prayer hall on the first floor, and women will be in the second prayer hall upstairs. There will be people to guide you where to go, before the ceremony starts.
What happens after the ceremony at the mosque?
The Nikah Ceremony is quite short, usually lasting around 10-15 mintutes. After leaving the mosque, your time is to do with as you please until the reception at 6:00 p.m. Please use this time to change into your formal evening attire and get ready to celebrate!
Will there be transportation to and from the mosque?
No, transportation will not be provided. Please make your own arrangements if you wish to attend the ceremony.
Is it customary to bring any gifts to the mosque?
Only your presence is requested! Please save all gifts for the reception.
What gift should I get the couple?
We are both thrilled about celebrating our big day with you all! Your presence at our wedding is the greatest gift but if you'd like, we would be overjoyed with a contribution towards our new home fund.
