In May 2020, in the midst of COVID craziness, Ashley and Dan connected online. Ashley couldn't resist reaching out after spotting Dan's adorable golden retriever, Eli, in his profile. Their online chats quickly turned into phone calls, texts, and Snapchats, building a connection that felt too good to be true.

After a whirlwind of virtual dates, they decided to take the leap and meet face-to-face. Choosing Windsor Locks Canal State Park for their first in-person encounter might've seemed a bit risky, but with outdoor settings being the safest bet at the time, they went for it.

Over the next couple of years, they grew close, eventually moving in together in South Windsor. Then, on a special evening, Dan surprised Ashley with a romantic gesture she'd never forget. After spending weeks recording their song, "You Are the Best Thing" by Ray Lamontagne, he took her to her favorite restaurant, where he played the song he'd poured his heart into. And as the music filled the air, Dan got down on one knee and asked Ashley to be his forever.
