Dan and Serena first met in the bread section at Trader Joe's in Huntington Beach back in October of 2015. Their first conversation went something like: 'Oh do you search for the cracked wheat sourdough with the longer expiration date, too?'
As Dan remembers, Serena was wearing yoga pants. (Dan edit: I remember more yoga pants than bread) Naturally, he followed her to the frozen food section. She was picking up some frozen chicken chow mein (which Dan later bought, so he could flirt with her...ate...found disgusting, but later sent her a message telling her it was delicious).
Their conversation ranged from golf to what they did for work and led to Dan asking her for her phone number, which she declined, because 'things were complicated.' (Dan edit: all true)
(Dan edit: Let's. not forget how Serena "randomly" pulled up next to Dan at the stop light on the way out of Trade Joes. Sitting at a red light she happened to have her windows down and pretended not to see me. I rolled the window down, said, "Nice to meet you Serena" as we both pulled away. )
Dan found her on social media (she was a pretty easy find after she told him she worked with the Lakers, and sent her several cute messages, on both Instagram and Facebook). He was persistent, and cute. (Dan edit: Still is)Several months later, in March of 2016, Serena finally responded to his messages.
They met up on the boardwalk in Huntington Beach, on a Thursday night, and Dan brought his new puppy, Nash. (because...who can resist a handsome man with a puppy?)
Little did they know that by January of 2018, they would be preparing to move from Huntington Beach to Portland, Oregon for a new job opportunity, and 9 months later, they'd be preparing for yet another move....This time, across the country to the beautiful city of Philadelphia, for, yup, you guessed it, an even better job opportunity.
Dan locked her up the night before she moved to Philadelphia (Dan would join her in a couple months after finishing up packing everything up in Oregon). Wearing sweatpants and in a condo full of cardboard boxes, Dan got down on one knee while playing Leon Bridges, 'Beyond,' in the background. (Nash was there, too)
And the rest is history :)
