On December 28, 2020 at the height of Covid-19 and on Lisa's birthday, our dear friend Rachael had this crazy idea. After posting a birthday tribute on Facebook that Dana responded to with a generic, "Happy Birthday!" Rachael realized we had a lot in common. So, she said to Lisa, "Listen, I don't know why I've never thought about this before, but I have someone I really want you to meet. Are you open to possibly dating a...woman?" After a little discussion and some back and forth about who this "Dana" was, Lisa agreed she'd be open. Rachael then reached out to Dana and asked if she was open to meeting a friend of hers. After some conversation and the exchange of a few pictures, Dana asked for Lisa's phone number and later that reached out to her with a text that said, "Hi. This is Dana and this is my number...use it." Because it was Lisa's birthday, and it was a pandemic, she and Rachael were celebrating at Lisa's home with drinks and wings when the text came in. After some back and forth, Dana was invited to come and join the celebration and she accepted when they discovered that they lived less than 2 minutes from each other. That night Dana and Lisa talked for several hours and decided to have lunch the next day. Dana picked Lisa up for their lunch date and they sat at Fine and Dandy's so long that they had both lunch and dinner. Over the course of the next few weeks they saw each other nearly everyday and became great friends. They remained just friends for about two months before Dana asked Lisa to be her girlfriend (after Lisa started wondering if she really liked her). They dated quietly for several months before Lisa shared their relationship with her family and friends, worried about their reactions. But she did "come out" to her family and friends who fully supported them and their relationship. Dana's friends and family warmly embraced Lisa. Dana began planning to propose to Lisa in January, 2023 and bought a ring for her in late February after consulting with many of their mutual friends about the design of the ring. But, she couldn't decide on the right time and event to propose. But, as they planned a trip together to New Orleans in July, Dana decided that would be the perfect time. As the news was reporting about the latest crisis in the world, Dana came up with the idea to propose via a video with the headline "Breaking News!" that Lisa would open while on their trip. In this video, she professed that she loved Lisa and wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. Lisa accepted immediately after seeing the video and they were engaged on July 21 at Le Meridian Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana.
