Our story begins in the exotic land of online dating, where Dana fully admits she did not read Nate’s profile and only matched with him because he was tall and a firefighter. After the planned outdoor date got rained out, and the first couple restaurants were full, the fourth attempt led to a local Mexican restaurant. Nate questioned whether Dana actually thought he was funny after she repeatedly said “that’s comical” instead of laughing at his jokes. Later, he found out that is one step higher than actually laughing out loud in Dana’s books.

Dana suggested continuing the date with a scavenger hunt in Petco and Target, and Nate instantly fell in love. This was despite Dana’s later insistence on using a timer for every activity including how long she would kiss Nate before going home.

At the beginning of their relationship, people always asked what the best part of dating one another was. Dana routinely said, “it’s so convenient, he lives five minutes away from my work!” Nate would reply, “she’s so reasonable!” Nate’s mom even told him that “Dana seems really easy.” Nate objected to the wording, but agreed with the sentiment. Somehow, even though both had incredibly boring descriptions of the positive traits of the other, they have grown to find love and continue to have fun with each other in an extremely caring relationship.

In the two years since meeting, they have traveled together to Maui, Niagara Falls, Colombia, and Costa Rica. Dana has introduced Nate to the world of staying in fancy hotels for cheap, and Nate has introduced Dana to outdoor adventures like backpacking and kayak camping trips. Dana was an incredibly good sport and despite getting rained out one trip, and mosquitoed out on another, she continues to go on these trips with Nate. They have both had a major career change, moved in together twice, and survived a home remodel, which routinely went in Nate’s calendar as “No Fun Day with Dana.”

In January 2022, Dana implemented the “quarterly date” (she was in finance at the time, no other sane adult thinks of things in quarters). Every quarter each one plans a date that they wouldn’t do otherwise. From monster jam to costumed bingo to a ping pong bar, they’re slowly making their way around the Seattle area’s little-known attractions. They have loved growing with one another, meeting one another’s loved ones, and can't wait for all the future adventures.
