Our Wedding

Tom and Dana met in the hallowed halls of their dorm, Lincoln Avenue Residence (affectionately known as LAR), in Urbana at the University of Illinois. Dana and a few of her new friends stopped by Tom and usher Ben Streeter’s room to say hi after a floor meeting the night before class started. You’ll even find this date, 8/26/12, engraved on the inside of Dana’s engagement ring. Over the next few weeks, they didn’t see much of each other due to busy schedules with Greek life and soccer, but the spark was there. One day, there was a dorm event in the basement of LAR. Naturally, Tom skipped it, but Dana reeled him into the room when she saw him walking by after dinner. Tom knew she was interested. They began to talk and hang out more throughout the fall semester at late-night dinners at nearby dorm PAR and Greek events. They first went out together at an off-campus bar called High Dive, when Dana’s sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Tom’s fraternity, Theta Xi, had an ABC-themed exchange (Anything But Clothes). Dana wore a newspaper dress, and Tom wore a garbage bag. Tom even met Dana’s family once that fall; thankfully, he was wearing clothes then. Tom eventually worked up the courage to ask Dana out after Christmas break, and they had their first official date at Flat Top on February 9, 2013, which was at the corner of Sixth and Green on campus. The rest is history. Throughout college they had fun together at parties, Tom’s soccer games, football and basketball games, and visits to Chicago, Naperville, Morton, Springfield, Indianapolis, Michigan, and Minnesota. They’ve survived multiple stretches of living away from each other with lots of weekend visits and trips together, even in 2021 and 2022 with Dana in Tampa and Chicago and Tom in Chicago and Edwardsville. Dana studied abroad in college for a summer in China, and Tom went to Sweden for a semester. They both lived in Chicago for a year after college before Tom moved to Minneapolis for two years to coach soccer at Augsburg University. Then, they both moved to Tampa. On December 18, 2020, Tom proposed to Dana at sunset on the beach in Siesta Key, which is their favorite spot in Florida and where the Romanos and their family have vacationed for years. They celebrated with a steak dinner at Summer House and flew home to Chicago the next morning to surprise everyone with the good news. Dana didn’t see it coming. Fun Facts The Homas and their cousins, the Rolands, lived in Clarendon Hills and were parishioners at Notre Dame Catholic Church for several years. Tom, Andy, and their cousin, John, were baptized at Notre Dame. Dana's parents, Dave and Claudia, got married on July 14 (the day before Dana and Tom's wedding) in 1990 nearby at Christ the King Catholic Church in Lombard.

Best friend of the Bride | Although they share an apartment in Chicago, Dana has never actually seen Lisa, who was recently named Chicago’s Busiest Woman by Time Magazine, at home. Also, if you’re lucky, you’ll hear her rendition of Hilary Duff’s “Come Clean” at the reception.
Strength: Works out every day.
Weakness: Will probably try to turn the dance floor into a hot yoga class.

Lisa Lagomarcino

Cousin, Fraternity Brother, and Pledge Dad of the Groom | 
The man who once ran a 6am charity 5k after a night of heavy drinking in a feeble attempt to get a girl's attention in college can now be found on the dance floor with his loving wife swaying to slow country hits. Strengths: Olympic foosball player, hosting trivia nights. Weaknesses: Cardinals fan, addiction to gambling on 4th division Turkish soccer.

Ben Kwedar

Friend of the Bride | She works for one of the largest multinational beverage alcohol companies in the world, but she struggles to shotgun a beer. Catch Ainsley at the open bar with her coworker and fellow bridal party member, Michael Romano, trying to learn how to.
Strength: Has an awesome apartment on Michigan Avenue.
Weakness: Born in Canada.

Ainsley Laven

Cousin of the Groom | One of the greatest intramural football players Purdue has ever seen, Matt can be found meticulously taking notes on his likes and dislikes of the wedding in anticipation of planning his own someday. Strengths: Used to work at a button factory, will tell you more about sports than ESPN can. Weaknesses: No longer works at a button factory, reads at a third grade level.

Matt Copeland

Friend of the Bride | Once in a two-man band with Dana, Jill may break out her old keyboard and guitar and have Dana dust off her trombone at the reception to give the crowd their best cover of “New Soul” by Yael Naim, just like they did at their high school talent show.
Strength: Mom of the friend group who has whatever you need in her purse.
Weakness: Will make you go to bed early, especially on school nights.

Jill Akins

Cousin of the Groom | You'll find Will enthusiastically impersonating Michael Jackson on the dance floor as he always does at family weddings. Strengths: All things art, Lowe's Employee of the Month. Weaknesses: Wasn't selected in this year's NBA draft, probably won't get drafted next year either.

Will Copeland

Friend of the Bride | Athlete, movie connoisseur, avid traveler, and game night enthusiast, Paige is a modern-day renaissance woman. She is the closest thing we know to the Dos Equis guy, the Most Interesting Man in the World. Find her at the reception to talk about whatever your heart desires.
Strength: Completed a triathlon.
Weakness: University of Iowa alumna.

Paige Weber

Brother of the Bride | Look for the booze extraordinaire at the open bar talking about Illinois sports and UFC. He may even help you out with your cocktail order. Strengths: 5'9" on dating apps, high school volleyball stud. Weaknesses: 5'6" in your living room, 30 handicap on the golf course.

Michael Romano

Friend of the Bride | This wedding will be Jackie’s first return to Chicago in several years since she’s been living in the wilderness of Tennessee, Wyoming, and Colorado teaching survival skills to kids. If you want to learn how to avoid poison ivy and deadly mushrooms, she’s your gal.
Strength: Can identify any plant.
Weakness: Never has good enough cell service to FaceTime.

Jackie Jeambey

Brother of the Bride | If you don't see Joey at the reception, you'll hear him. He's the loudest guy in the room and is always trying to sing karaoke. Strengths: Youngest pilot at the wedding, Western Michigan frat star. Weaknesses: Washed up JV quarterback, lifelong Bears fan.

Joey Romano

Sister of the Groom | Despite the fact that she crashed two cars in a single week just a few years ago, she now drives an ambulance and is an EMT and aspiring doctor at the University of Illinois. See Gracie for an IV if you have a post-reception headache bigger than the one she gave her parents.
Strength: Lives across the street from Red Lion and knows how to party on the best campus in the world.
Weakness: Peaked in high school.

Gracie Homa

Friend of the Bride and Groom | Best known for creating a YouTube video mashup of Jason Derulo singing his own name that has garnered 98,000+ views, Mike is the life of any get-together with endless jokes and party tricks. Mike Pizzo

Friend of the Bride and Groom | The Morton High School Class of 2012 valedictorian set the record on the pop-a-shot in the background of this picture at a bar in Tampa while visiting Tom. If you're looking for some light conversation at the reception, ask him about his PhD in bioengineering from Georgia Tech and Emory University. He's not that smart, though; he still doesn't know how to tie his shoes.

Cousin of the Bride | The coolest dude at the wedding, Grayson loves soccer, swimming, running fast like Sonic the Hedgehog, dinosaurs, superheroes, Mario Kart, animals, fishing at the lake, and being a big brother.

Grayson Rickoff

Cousin of the Groom | Like any good kid, Cassie doesn't enjoy naps or going to sleep early, but she loves the colors pink and yellow, eating edamame and artichokes, trips to the zoo, and being a big sister.
