Driving along the Hana Highway is a full day scenic experience, so be prepared for winding roads, waterfalls, and epic ocean views. We recommend packing snacks, water, towels, swimsuits, waterproof shoes, and dry clothes. If you don’t pay a guided tour and go yourself download the Shaka Maui app beforehand. Choose your route before you go and download it ALL before you leave, as there is no service in Hana. It is about an hour and a half drive from West Maui to get to the start of the highway and usually takes 8 hours to fully experience this adventure!
There are many companies that offer snorkeling tours on Maui or to the neighboring island, Molokai. You’ll be sure to catch a sight of a sea turtle (Honu) if you don’t see one lounging on the beach first!
Our wedding will be in the middle of whale season, so a guided tour to spot whales is definitely a top 10 bucket list item! There are a variety of options including small boats and full sized catamarans with snacks and drinks, depending on your preference.
